Virginia City Escape Room — Local services in Dayton

I was there today with a 9 year old & 11 year old boy. They were both charged full $30. There was a zero percent probability they ever would have solved any of the riddles. At one of the clues, the key did not work and we spend 15 minutes trying to solve it. Also there isnt any ventilation, lighting is poor, it is on the 2nd floor and the stairs are steep & shallow. There isnt any mention of that on the website. The telephone number on the reminder email is incorrect and belongs to a former owner. We waited outside the address until our reservation time and no one came. I ended up calling the number on the door and was told I was supposed to check in at an adjacent business. That information isn't posted on the door nor was it included in the reservation. When I brought it up to the clerk who I paid she curtly asked what I wanted her to do about it. I did this with a family group of 9ppl, it was a lot of fun but some clues didn’t quite add up and the last room was not reset correctly so we ended up having a bunch of ppl trying to figure out multiple different clues where some no longer mattered because of the improper reset. I feel this ruined the experience for me personally and we left thinking it wasn’t as fun as it could have been. The ambience is really cool and the staff is absolutely incredible and they were open on Christmas which made this a fun last minute activity! We may try to do this escape room a second time to see if when everything is set correctly by staff that it may be a better experience. We were also told they recently changed the ending so wondering if it was a good change they made or not. My only other comment is maybe more clues or things to be placed in the main room, perhaps under the couch...

Freaking spooky AF. The act of doing the Scape room was a blast, tough, challenging, and at the same time scarry. Hard to tell where the spookiness of the game begins/ends and where the spookyness of the place itself with all it's history intersects with the game.
