We ended up leaving the hotel for the night before midnight. We began to notice issues from the moment we arrived. The first issue was there was absolutely no notification that the ghost tour was canceled. We called twice before checking in within the hotel asking about room rates, ghost tour and confirming our reservation. Not once were informed the ghost tour was canceled. The second problem was the room itself. A squeeky fan that was a good 10 feet above the bed itself. This fan served absolutely no purpose aside from makingin squeeky noises. There was hardly any ventilation in the room and thus made the room feel like it was about 85 degrees in the room. The bedding was decorative material. I personally though it felt like burlap sack across the skin. The town itself has absolutely nothing going on past 10pm. Only 1 bar was open from about 7 to 10pm and the rest of the town shut down by 7pm. After visiting the red dog saloon from 830 to 10pm, we decided to head back to our room. When we arrived at our hotel, it was still incredibly hot inside the room itself. Other guests had their doors propped open as it was the only way to keep cool inside of the room. This created a massive problem with guest noise. There was a crowd of 10 to 15 guest that decided to have a drunken party in the hotel room. By 11pm i was so fed up with the bedding, the heat and the horrifying screams of drunken girls and guests, that I left the hotel for the evening. I drove 30 minutes to Reno, where i got a room for the night. I really wanted to experience the history of the hotel, the possible encounters with the unknown. This review probably sounds like i am not accepting of the enviroment and history of the hotel. The truth is, i have stayed in many haunted places with lots of history, from Oak alley plantation in LA to the jerome hotel in Jerome, AZ. This place was no joke and the first of my walkouts from any hotel. The hotel looked and felt creepy to me, would have loved to felt the history of this place. On a positive note, the woman who checkes us into the hotel (think her name was Karen) she was nice. She was kind an accomodating to our needs prior to all these misfortunes. Unfortunately the hotel staff leaves early, so there was no way to give our feedback in person in real time. A long way to travel from Seattle for such a...
Read moreWe stayed one night on February 19, 2022 Pros: We stayed in #12 overlooking the main street. The decor of the hotel and the room itself were great. It definitely had the authentic old west feeling. We also had a cool large clawfoot tub in the room that was fun to use. The check-in process was easy and the clerk was friendly and professional. We paid $132 including tax for the night. We had absolutely no feeling of spirits or ghosts of any kind during our stay.
Cons: Where to begin.. About the room: The clawfoot tub had no regular faucet to fill it. There was only a hand held shower sprayer tthat took forever to fill the tub. There is no bedside lamp in the room. The only lighting options were the large bright one overhead on the fan or the one inside the water closet. It was either pitch dark or blindingly bright in the room. There was no in between option. The. mattress on our bed was rock hard. It was like sleeping on cement. It was miserable and the most uncomfortable bed I have ever slept in.
Regarding the hotel: The "rules" of no smoking in the rooms, quiet after 10pm are NOT ENFORCED IN ANY WAY. The front desk and the bar downstairs closes at 5:00pm and management locks up and goes home.... After that it is every man for himself. There is nobody on site to monitor guests behavior.. AT ALL. The doorway to the stairs that leads from the street up to the rooms is left open all night long and anybody can come traipsing through. And they do. The nasty smell of marijuana being smoked permiated the hallways, drunken guests were partying and laughing in the hallways for extended periods of time until well past midnight (Even after being asked to be in quiet). Many young children running up and down the halls laughing and playing completely unsupervised until very late. It was like a big drunken party at all times around you. We got no sleep at all. I would...
Read moreFirst I would like to state that I Love this Hotel. The history, ghost stories, and all around experience of staying in a hotel that is over 100 years old. The saloon and wedding chapel are very neat places, and the staff are usually very friendly. Just a warning the stairs are very steep and the walls are very thing, but it's an old hotel so keep an open mind. That being said, I want to focus more on the cleanliness and maintenance of the rooms. I have stayed at this hotel more than once. Room 19 and 18 to be specific(3rd story rooms looking over C street). Each time I was just slightly disappointed with the overall condition of the room. I understand the feeling is supposed to reflect an older hotel lodging feel. They accomplish that very well(in a good way), but certain things were sub par. For example the bed frame screws were loose and barely holding together, shower floor mats were discolored and tore. Our little in room table had crumbes from I assume a previous guest. Ceiling fans had lots of dust on them, as well as the blinds. All around just needed a little more TLC. I'm not expecting a 5 star reno hotel quality, but still a nice place to stay. I still urge you to check out and stay at the silver queen, it is an amazing piece of the towns history. My goal is to hope management reads this review in a positive way to help boost their business. I'm hoping the next time we lodge here again someone will have taken just a few hours to work on the rooms conditions. Thanks for reading and really do hope you will visit this...
