I've shopped here many times, and earlier today Friday 2/7/25, I decided to go in and look for a humidifier for my plants. I first stopped and looked at shirts; I picked one up but still wasn't quite sure if I wanted it. I made my way back to the appliance stand, didn't see a humidifier so I poked my head into the back rooms just to quickly look around, then walked back up front. I hung the shirt up because I still wasn't sure if I wanted to spend money, then meandered over to where the coffee mugs and plates and kitchenware stuff is. I picked up a coffee mug that said "Crazy Plant Lady" and considered it, then sat it back down. I then picked up some ramekins, which I actually needed, which made me finally decided yes, I'll buy some stuff from here. I reached back behind me, grabbed the Crazy Plant Lady mug, then kept on walking toward the back of the kitchen area all the way to the left of the main entrance.
When I made my way back to the wall with coffee mugs, a man came running at me - literally actually running - and blocked me in at the very back of the front room. My heart raced for a minute because I immediately felt unsafe that someone ran at me, before I realized that it was the cashier, a heavier set man with facial hair and a blue shirt on, and he was standing there just watching me, blocking me in. After processing for a second, I realized he was watching me to make sure I wasn't shoplifting. I slowly made my way back to the front to test this theory. He watched me the whole time from the same position until I got close to the front desk to check out, which he then sprinted back up to the register and said, "Are you ready to check out?" I said, "I was until you followed me around." All he could do was laugh at me. I left the building immediately.
I need you to know, very seriously, that this constitutes harassment. I'm not sure if you have cameras in your store or not, but if you do you will see that my actions that I've just described perfectly match any CCTV footage. I'm incredibly upset at this experience. This was blatantly discriminatory and I'm not sure why. I'm a 40 y.o. single woman who was wearing skinny jeans, close-toed shoes, a t-shirt covered up by a grey cardigan, and a crossbody back over my chest. Nothing about me screams "Shoplifter!" so what was it all about?? I don't want an apology from Ruth's Room because this was no accident, it was intentional. Your employee intentionally cornered me and made me uncomfortable. What I need is an explanation as to why he did this, and what Ruth's Room and Habitat for Humanity plan to do to ensure that your employees / volunteers don't treat people this way ever again. I'll be emailing a copy of my experience to both Ruth's Room and Habitat for Humanity so we can continue the conversation there.
For everyone else: Don't shop here. Employees at Denton Thrift on the other side of University and Upscale Resale off of Teasley (which benefits Friends of the Family) don't harass customers and block women into spaces the way Ruth's Room employees do. I will never, ever give Ruth's Room my...
Read moreI have been a long time supporter of this facility until today. Not sure if the folks that are working were having a bad day, but it started off at 9:58 am when my son and i decided to stop by to see what was new. I was told they opened at 10 am and so we window browsed. A lady walked in so i popped my head inside the door and was met with a man named Rob telling me in a very rude manner that i would have to wait till he unlocked the doors. I apologize and asked if he would just let us know when they were opened. By the time i got into my car he turned around and opend the doors. I proceeded to look at the christmas tree and asked if i could put this on hold. Another employee had to help me. My son saw a china hutch and decided to buy the peice immediatly. When we asked if they would help my son load it into my suv, Rob stated its not going to fit. I told him that it would if laid on its back. He said well lets just measure it first after arguing with me for a few minutes. I felt like i was a bother to him and his crew. The peice did fit on the bottom and i told him i could return for the top peice. It was then that i saw a love seat and couch i wanted him to hold for me along with a table. In total i would have gladly spent $500.00. I was told that if i didnt show up exactly at 10 Am it would be sold that they wont hold for anything after 10Am. The store opens at ten and i will be there, but i no longer want the furniture because when i asked if they would hold it for one hour after ten so i could go to a meeting i was rudely told NoWay. I just dont think i will bother doing the business with this store. I never have had a problem in the past when making big purchases before. And i dont need to be treated like im a burden to spend my money at this store. I sure miss Daloris whom knows me very well and didnt ever treat me like i was wasting her time. ps: when i called back to speak with a manager Rob answes the phone and...
Read moreI always find two or three things that I really like whenever I shop at Ruth's. They have a wide variety of clothes for women. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for men, the men only have a tiny section to themselves. I suppose it's because the name of the store attracts more women to make donations and shop there. They also have a great homegoods sections. Oftentimes you can also find back to school supplies for a good price. They have discounts everyday of the week for veterans, seniors, and even college students. The only thing that bugs me is how the store increases it's prices by a dollar for every clothing item. I don't think it's fair that every clothing item is $3 dollars now, when some items are obviously not worth $3. For example, I'd understand if a dress is worth $3, but not a dirty raggedy tshirt. I look for old items that have holes or stains, because I use the fabric for diy projects. However, I don't think that such items are worth $3 when I could just go across the street to the thrift shop next to Kroger and find tshirts or garments in worst conditions for under a dollar. They need a better pricing system. I think someone in their store gets a little price happy and uses a heavy hand to price their items. Items in white tags often go for higher prices as well. Most of their volunteers are friendly. I've only had one instance where a college student was rude. Regardless, this store is a hidden gem. It's nice and cozy, especially around the holidays. They usually give more discounts closer to the...
