The Design House — Local services in Denton

We went to Design House looking to replace our kitchen countertops and backsplash, with a bathroom remodel next on the list. When I would come in to look at samples, I felt like an inconvenience more often than not. Those who helped me the most were either not in sales or not on my project. Communication was subpar at best. They have a large selection of tile in the showroom, I just never found something that I loved. I found a backsplash I loved elsewhere, but they said they would not install a product they didn’t sell as they could not back the product. No big deal we decided to go forward with counters and use another contractor for the backsplash. Design House did not come in with the lowest price after multiple quotes for the same counter, but we hoped it would be more of a one stop shop for our kitchen and bathroom needs. The demo crew was far and beyond better than the install crew. Despite being left without our stove brackets that they somehow broke during install, shims left hanging out under counters, and scratched wood floors, the counters are top notch though! We love them! However, with new counters comes a sink. The sink was low on our priorities, so we went with what was included, never considered that it could be worse than the standard builder grade sink we already had. Do not pick the standard sink. It's so thin it warped on install causing it to hold standing water and was completely scratched up within days (or character as they called it). They agreed to replace, but only with the same sink. No option for us to upgrade from the awful one that was installed as they said it would not fit (we’ve already found another sink that did indeed fit the cutout). We were told we could not withhold payment due to the problems with the sink. It came across very rude. We had intended on paying the next day when the sink was scheduled to be taken care of and still within contractual agreement before charges were applied. We’ve worked with many contractors and as a heads up never should you pay in full before the job is complete in its entirety to your satisfaction. Majority of businesses and contractors prefer your give them the chance to make it right and want to do so. Our family came down with covid before the sink replacement and knew we'd have to delay the mess even longer for a sink we really didn’t want. We instead paid in full and asked to cancel so we could replace the sink ourselves with a better one. We didn't get so much as a reply, a call, a thank you for your business, not an OK, nothing. I am so happy to have found Design House! After starting a remodel with another contractor, it became evident that the fireplace remodel with 2’x4’ tiles was out of his scope of expertise. I contacted the tile distributor and was referred to Design House. Our experience from our first interaction with Chelan to the completion of the project was excellent!

Chelan returned calls promptly and had a calm, reassuring disposition throughout the project. She even called personally at the completion of the project to say how beautiful it was and to be sure we were happy. Such a beautiful touch to feel like she was in it with me the entire way. I can’t say enough about the texting system Design House uses to communicate schedules and changes. I never needed to worry about trying to get hold of some because I had texting capability and their responses were always timely.

Dustin was the initial project manager. We appreciated that he came out twice to see the scope of the project and to problem solve prior to the initiation of the project. Eddie ended up being the project manager as we were delayed due to other contractor issues and scheduling issues.

Eddie came out with a team, Lolo and Angel. They took so much time in the pre-planning. They listened to my vision and were open to finding a solution to complete it. They deemed it necessary to purchase additional equipment to get accurate mitered cuts that they would be happy with and ultimately that we would be happy with. They helped me lay out tiles and were patient when issues came up. Eddie was here almost daily overseeing the progress, communicated well and seemed to be invested in providing exactly what we envisioned.

The installer, Lolo, is an artist!! His cuts were impeccable and the matching of the pattern in the tile was flawless. He and Angel were a wonderful team. I was happy to see them arrive each day and trusted every opinion they gave. I can’t say enough about their craftsmanship. I was almost in tears with happiness when they finished!

The entire team went above and beyond to ensure the project was done well. I would highly recommend Design House and will definitely use them in the future. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

We had an unexpected attic leak that sent water trickling down through the ceiling and walls- definitely not the kind of surprise anyone wants! Thankfully, Design House (DH) came to the rescue promptly and professionally. Their communication was clear, and their work was top-notch.

Here’s what DH took care of for us: • Replaced the master bath vanity and the damaged wall behind it • Repaired closet walls, stair walls, and stairs • Installed a new stair rail • Upgraded the flooring in three downstairs rooms

The original downstairs flooring was a complicated, unconventional mess. An extra layer made it taller than the adjoining kitchen and hallway, creating awkward transitions and tripping hazards. DH expertly removed the excess flooring, ensuring the new installation was flush with the surrounding rooms. No more clunky transition pieces- just a seamless, beautiful floor! The new material and stain look incredible, and the updated baseboards, trim, and undercut around the fireplace give everything a sleek, polished finish.

Months later, I’m still in awe of our stunning new bathroom vanity. DH truly exceeded our expectations!

After a nightmare experience with previous contractors (avoid Kyle Pippins and Tim Kenneth Husted at all costs!), Design House restored our faith in home improvement. They treated us with professionalism, respect, and care from start to finish.
