UPDATE - NOV 13, 2021: So I've had them twice since my review four weeks ago, and sizing is still a problem (SEE PIC). My wife picked some up on a weekday afternoon and the Large was actually large like before. But I returned on a Sat night and what I got was smaller. It wasn't a travesty like the first review, but there was excess space around the meat. I noticed there were fewer customers - just me and another car.
Don't spend $14 on the Large - it's inconsistent and not worth it. I suspect they're giving the same amount as a Classic. Good food, but unreliable. I was set to make this my weekly place, but not anymore. I'm removing a star. BUYER BEWARE.
ORIGINAL REVIEW: I hate to do this but I'm worried about this place now. I'm scared they're starting to skimp, understock, and turn into "the Denton" location of a chain.
I've been digging this place for weeks, and I usually get the Large Plate. Today I did the same and what I got was noticeably smaller. I usually eat it in two sittings, but this time I'm nearly done in one. I just finished and came to write this review.
I'm not sure if it's a poorly trained employee, or if mgmt made this decision. If costs went up, just raise the price. Don't hide it with empty space where food used to be.
They were also out of teriyaki packets, which hasn't happened yet. Isn't that like running out of ketchup? That and the reduced portions have me worried about a mgmt change (and slow decline). Then they'll reduce their hours, etc...the typical Denton decline.
If this was a fluke, I hope they fix their portion standards asap. I'm giving it one more chance, and if it fails I'm posting pictures. I already lost Jonuzi's and my patience for this is low.
(Order was placed on Fri. Oct. 8, 2021 around 10:30 pm.)
EDIT: Notice the lack of response to my review. Probably b/c the assessment is correct. I bet the hours get reduced by Dec! Sorry the truth hurts. Good luck skimping at Golden Triangle...this isn't our first rodeo.
ALSO: Go to the reviews for this place and search 'Kleo'. Scores of people all mention Kleo, Zavery, etc. I've been there several times, met great staff, but never got names LOL. I know businesses do this, but this is overkill. Guess what? NAMELESS EMPLOYEE served me a Classic when I paid...
Read moreI was waiting for their place in Frisco to open but decided to make the trek to Denton on a day off. Parking lot was a bit strange with cones and lanes which prevent you from leaving freely. I'd recommend just a drive through and carryout spots. We don't need to wait on the curbside order lane blocking the path to exit. Just use the carryout parking spots please.
Staff was super friendly upon arrival. The kiosk layout was mildly confusing. Seems like they'll move to self service in the future since the UI was identical to the solo self service kiosk in the corner. Love the self service idea.
Food was as expected for "fast Hawaiian" and it was fast. It took about 3-4 minutes from order to order up on a Friday at 11:30am. Ordered the classic Kalua pig, spam masubi and a Hawaiian canned drink. Great value for the $ and would even consider the small size next time as the classic was more than enough for a hungry dude. Pork was tender as could be with some liquid smoke flavor and tangy bbq sauce on the side. The rice beneath was soaked in delicious juice from the pork. Spam masubi was spot on and makes a nice add on if you're really hungry on top of the lunch plate. Side rice...was rice, slightly sticky and fresh. Now for my one let down... the mac salad. It was just mac and mayo, maybe some salt and pepper. No sweet (sugar), no tang (vinegar soaked noodles), no shredded carrots or onions like the real deal. If there was one place to improve it's here. I give it a pass and still 4 stars since it's not really aiming to be authentic, but fast Hawaiian. It's a chain so I doubt they'll change the recipe but feedback to you Hawaiian Bros all the same.
I dined outdoors and enjoyed the breeze from the overhead fans while chowing down. An extremely welcoming employee named Daniel stopped by my table just to check in, tell me about the restaurant, and make sure everything was ok. Great hospitality for a fast food restaurant. Looking forward to your Frisco location and...
Read moreIt was just ok. We drove from Carrollton to try this. My husband drives up every Wednesday for work to check on a Denton County project and saw it as they were transitioning a Pollo Tropical building and was excited to try it, so we did. We both had the mixed plate: Honolulu Chicken and Luau Pork, Molokai Chicken and mixed veggies. My son had the one entrée Huli Huli Chicken. First, it was disappointing that they didn't have more variety, all chicken and only one pork dish. Most other Hawaiian cuisine restaurants we've been to locally (and Hawaii) have katsu, fish, shrimp and beef. We definitely missed those options. Macaroni salad was just ok to me. There may have been a spice that made it taste different to me. My husband liked it. My chicken seemed too done, which is hard for thighs. I did like my husband's luau pork, tasty and not dry. My veggies were over done. My husband seemed to like the food more than my son and I. If it was convenient, I may try again (it is new), but there is another Hawaiian place closer to us and this doesn't beat it. We did end our dinner with the Dole soft serve. My son said that was his favorite part of dinner. It was really good. My son and I had the pineapple/strawberry twist and my husband had the pineapple. Service was fast and friendly!! Those in Denton, give it a try for...
