What an absolutely TERRIBLE experience. Our server didn’t come to take our order for 20 minutes, and after that, it took another 20 minutes just to get our drinks. It was nearly 40 minutes before we even had drinks on the table. After that, it took over an hour and 12 minutes to finally receive our food.
I requested Canadian bacon to be added to my Eggs Benedict (it already came with regular bacon, and I wanted both meats). The server explained they wouldn’t accommodate the request and said it would be served on the side. When the food finally arrived, the Canadian bacon was missing, leading to another six-minute wait. (I was hoping it would have just been left behind but clearly they had to cook it up)
My husband’s burger, ordered medium, came out completely overcooked, dry, and well done to charred. The egg that was supposed to be over-medium was almost hard-boiled instead. By the time the food arrived, the restaurant was closing, so we couldn’t send anything back even if we wanted to. Throughout the meal, we had to repeatedly ask for basic items like napkins, silverware, and syrup for a waffle.
One of my eggs fell off the plate as I tried to adjust the toppings because the kitchen hadn’t added the Canadian bacon as requested. My bacon was burnt BLACK while the rest of my meal was cold, and my husband’s plate was so hot it seemed like it had been sitting under a heat lamp for 20 minutes.
The server was very apologetic, but nothing was comped, which felt unacceptable given the abysmal experience. We left frustrated, unsatisfied, and still hungry since we barely touched our food.
We tipped 22% because we’re not A-holes and have both worked in the service industry, but honestly, the service and experience did not deserve it. The table shouldn’t have to ask for basic items like napkins, refills, the food they ordered, or syrup.
While I understand it was a busy day for them, It felt like the kitchen didn’t care because they were more focused on closing and cleaning by the time our food finally arrived. To make matters worse, we watched three other tables who ordered after us receive their food, pay, and leave before we got ours.
Overall, this visit was a disaster from start to finish, and we won’t be returning unless they want to make it right. $65...
Read moreIf your brunch vibe is chill playlists, stacked pancakes, and sipping a latte while deciding between three equally tempting bennies... pull up a chair. Let’s start with this: 7 Mile Café knows what it's doing when it comes to brunch. Whether you're a sweet-tooth dreamer or a savory soul, their menu is a whole situation. I had to pause and whisper to the menu, “Give me a sign,” because everything looked good. From their ultra-fluffy pancakes to a lineup of avocado toast that could headline Coachella, you will be tempted. The coffee bar deserves its own round of applause. This isn’t your basic drip station—it's a full-on latte lab for people who love their caffeine with a twist. I ordered one of their seasonal lattes and had a moment of silence for how pretty and perfectly balanced it was. As a part-time plant-based eater and full-time picky bruncher, I love that their vegan and vegetarian options are legit—not just “we took the bacon off” but thoughtfully crafted dishes with flavor and texture. Gluten-free friends? You’re covered too. The vibe? Relaxed but current. Think comfy seats, modern rustic decor, and music that makes you feel cooler than you actually are. It’s ideal for catching up with friends, sneaky solo brunches, or casual dates where you're trying to look like you’re effortlessly interesting. Now, let’s keep it real—weekends can be chaotic. Don’t stroll in at 11:30 a.m. on a Sunday expecting instant gratification. There will be a wait, and no, they don’t take reservations. Also, parking can test your patience if you're not mentally prepared for a game of “is that person leaving or just sitting in their car forever?” And while the staff is mostly lovely, there have been moments where the service didn’t quite match the energy of the food—usually when the place is slammed. But when they’re on? They’re ON. Final thoughts: 7 Mile Café is that girl—a little extra, a little crowded, but worth the hype. Go for the lattes, stay for the breakfast tacos, and try not to judge the person Instagramming their entire order (because it...
Read moreReview: “Scrambled, Signed, and Sublime” If you had told me that I’d start my Friday morning being taught how to sign “bacon” in American Sign Language by a server named Mel, I would have assumed you’d mistaken me for someone far more interesting—an off-duty clown or a barista with a side hustle in mime. But there I was, clutching a mug of coffee so good it made me rethink every life choice that had led me to drink gas station brew for a decade, and watching Mel gracefully fingerspell the word “eggs” like it was a kind of spell. Which, in a way, it was. Mel didn’t so much serve us breakfast as she conducted it, like a symphony of sizzling cast iron and bottomless coffee pots. She anticipated every need before it even flickered in my brain. Water? Already at the table. Hot sauce? She placed it down before I realized the scramble needed it—and it didn’t, but I admired the foresight. Napkin shortage? Not on her watch. She radiated warmth, the kind that makes you rethink your cynical opinions about humanity and maybe even leave a larger-than-usual tip without being resentful about it. Now, the food. Let me tell you about this Capitola Scramble. If brunch were a religion, this would be the golden calf. Eggs so fluffy they probably have a backstory involving a Parisian boarding school. Bacon that whispered, “You're worth it.” Avocado, ripe enough to make you emotional. And cheese. Oh, the cheese. Melted into everything like it knew it was the star of the show but didn’t want to make a scene. Everything about this meal was engineered for joy. And yet it was Mel who made it transcendent. She taught us how to say “breakfast” in ASL, and for a moment, it felt like we weren’t just patrons—we were part of a quiet, beautiful club. One where kindness is fluent, and the eggs are always perfect. I didn’t want to leave. As an out-of-towner I plan to come back every year until I’ve learned the entire brunch menu in sign language. Or until I die of happiness. Whichever...
