I had a mostly disappointing experience with Knotty Tie. Their main office is in Denver where I live, so luckily I could go over to the location to speak to someone or pick up an order. However, the process I went through for tie customizations was unnecessarily tedious and expensive. I want to be clear that this was just my experience, and based on the other reviews, I can see why other people had a much better experience than I did.
The color match tool is very useful-especially for my wedding this is exactly what I needed to make sure my groomsmen looked exactly how I pictured them. The frustrating piece starts here: In order to see the full range of colors that you can color match-you have to buy their $10 color match chart that you only really need to use once (unless you plan on ordering from Knotty Tie again). The chart they sell is not available as an online database of hex code on their website. Instead, it’s a physical poster made out of fabric that will lay around after you order once. As a business practice, it’s smart on Knotty Tie’s end, but disappointing and an unnecessary added cost to the consumer.
When ordering, I did a specific color match of tie to my suit color via hex code myself. However, when the first order arrived, the ties were close, but the incorrect shade.
Mind you, I paid around $250 for five custom ties in one color, which is pricey, but not unheard of given that they're custom. The main problem lies in the fact that they don’t allow refunds for custom ties, so if they aren’t correct for whatever reason, you have to pay for a whole new set of ties and wait another 7-10 business days. I can understand the policy of not providing refunds for custom made orders, but not if I didn’t receive exactly what I ordered in the first place.
When I reached out about the incorrect tie color I was told that I wouldn’t be given a refund, however my next order would be at a 50% discount, which was unfortunately the best case scenario. When I reordered again through the customer service provided link, the new ties arrived in the same incorrect shade that I got the first time. At this point, I had spent nearly $400 and waited around 3 weeks to get two incorrect orders.
I spoke to Daniela at Knotty Tie, whom, to her credit, was very helpful and responsive. She was willing to order the ties in the correct color I needed for no charge, as long as I returned the previous two sets of ties to the Knotty Tie office-which I did. At the third time asking, I did get the correct ties, and they looked perfect-which I am happy about. However, it took basically a month, 3 different orders, and $400 to get the correct single-color match ties- which is unacceptable. For a wedding, this entire process was unnecessarily time consuming, and cost-ineffective. Daniela was very helpful throughout the process, and one of the best parts about the experience.
Overall, I do think my situation was an aberration, and the ties themselves (when they were correct) were quite nice, and made with a good quality fabric; My groomsmen looked fantastic!
Customer service was very responsive, and willing to help their customers despite their frustrating refund policy. Ultimately, the nature of Knotty Tie's customization process, time spent waiting for the correct order, and the cost (in my opinion) was not worth it. I would recommend that if you plan to work with Knotty Tie that you also consider alternative...
Read moreWhen my fiance and I began searching for ties for him and his groomsmen, we had a very difficult time finding interesting patterns that matched our wedding colors. We were fortunate to find Knotty Tie Co. when searching online. The process for creating our custom ties was fairly straight-forward. We mailed them sample fabric swatches of each of our wedding colors, and they used these to email us selected designs in our colors. We were able to narrow down these designs from a file of many patterns and styles, which we really liked. I contacted the store two times with questions, and they were very helpful and polite in answering my questions. My only complaint with the company's customer service would be that they did not stick to the time-frame that was originally given. I submitted my order more than two months prior to our wedding to ensure that we had plenty of time to receive the ties. We chose traditional shipping because it said the arrival would be between 3-5 weeks, still leaving us with some time for flexibility. After 4 and a half weeks, I still hadn't heard anything from Knotty Tie Co., nor had I received any shipping information. I called and asked when to expect our ties and was told that they were "waiting on the fabric, and it should arrive tomorrow." Then, I was told, they would start making the ties and send them ASAP. After another week had passed, one of the employees called to ask me which of the 6 ties needed the custom groom's tag (because we had 1 x-long tie included in our order). This was frustrating because that information was included on my order and in an email. I was, also, frustrated that our order still hadn't been shipped at that time. In the end, we did receive the ties before our wedding, and they look absolutely incredible! I just wish that they had been more accurate with order and shipping time-frame. I would, also, suggest that they label the boxes in which the ties are packaged so that customers can know the sizes of the ties without having to open each one and lay them out to compare (which I did). All-in-all, great product! Love keeping business in the country and having...
Read moreKnot exactly what I thought it would look like. It is not bad but I am a little disappointed in two things. The first, it did not come with the green border that was sent to me to approve the scarf before it was made. I was happy that they were going to use one of the colors in the scarf design to edge it. Instead it was a white tread which doesn't look as nice. Secondly, I picked the individual boxes so that I could sell the scarfs and have something to look nice in for delivery. My problem here is the boxes all have the Knotty Tie Company name on them instead of being plain. I'm now going to need to have my painting design printed on crack and peel so I can cover up the manufacture logo since I am branding this with my brand. More work more cost to the final piece. :( Other than that, they were responsive and the quality does seem to be what I expected but I have not gone through all of them yet to make sure there are no bad places in the manufacturing. Hope this is helpful for anyone else ordering so you will know what to expect if you are choosing the same...
