Rocky Yama Sushi’s recognition as one of Yelp’s Top 100 Sushi Spots in 2024 is well-deserved!!
From the moment we first stepped into Rocky Yama Sushi over four years ago, Rex and Luis have welcomed us with open arms, making us feel like part of their family. Their dedication to their patrons shone brightly even through the toughest times of the pandemic, never wavering in warmth or service.
The menu at Rocky Yama is a testament to their commitment to customer satisfaction. My frequent requests for the crispy spicy tuna were met with such enthusiasm that it earned a permanent spot on the menu—a small, yet significant gesture that speaks volumes of their attentiveness. Meanwhile, my partner’s adoration for the firecracker roll is so well-known that it’s prepared almost by heart, a true sign of personalized service.
Happy hour at Rocky Yama is an affair we never miss. The rolls are exquisite, the drinks are perfectly mixed, and the prices are unbeatable. Whether we choose to sit at the sushi bar, engaging in the authentic sushi experience, or opt for the outdoor patio—with its thoughtful heating in winter and cooling shade in summer—we are guaranteed a delightful visit. The recent policy of allowing only service dogs on the patio reflects their consideration for all guests.
The service team, many of whom have been with Rocky Yama for years, are exceptional. Their longevity is a clear indicator of a positive and nurturing work environment. It’s been a joy to witness many of the staff pursue their education and move on to their dream jobs, a journey that Rocky Yama has supported every step of the way.
Nestled in the Santa Fe district, Rocky Yama Sushi is more than just a restaurant; it’s a cornerstone of the community, a place where locals can gather, celebrate, and enjoy the finest sushi around. We’re not just customers here—we’re family. And for that, we’ll always hold Rocky Yama Sushi close...
Read moreThe server was really slow, to her I will give 3.5. she was really slow, I don't know why. I had to ask her few times about box and bill. So I didn't like the servise. She ignore me mostly. I don't know why she didn't bring the two 🍲 together even if I asked. It was really cold and she told me when I feel the breeze she would start the heater, but she didn't. To other guests she started immediately. It was cold and I wanted to eat and go. My hands freeze.
The sushi is great! The food is fresh and tasty and prepare on the spot. The 5 points are for the sushi chief!!! Great job! Thank you!!!
The server was polite when talking. But she never checked if I needed something while sitted and it was only me and another table whom arrived when I was living. Just lazy, not carrying, or maybe she had a bad day. No I didn't feel like welcome guest, I felt more like a disturbance. The server bring water, took my order, bring the miso in two separate moments and bring the food, didn't ask if I needed anything else. I ask for bag's and Bill, she walked to the next table but didn't bring me what I asked for. It was slow. I did left her only 4$, but seriously she didn't deserve no tip. I give her the tip for being polite but not for serving me.
Over all I will go to eat there again! I recommend it!! Great food! The servise seams to discriminate single people....
Read moreThe food was fine, the treatment I received from a worker behind the counter was not. Staring at guests with hostility is a great way to ensure they don’t come back. Complaining about how a woman dresses like a boy in Spanish doesn’t exactly encourage customers to come back either. People are multilingual. Don’t talk about customers in front of them, even if you suspect they don’t speak the same languages. Sorry, I just got off of work, was on my period and physically fatigued, so I was dressed for my comfort rather than your viewing pleasure. I intended to dine in but his aggressive staring made me want to leave immediately. I spent my money because I was hungry and just needed fuel, but I don’t think I’ll be coming back, just from the hostility of that one man. For reference, I was there around 6:30pm on Tuesday, May 27th. It’s a shame too, because the sushi was fresh and decent for the price. Maybe have a conversation with him about basic respect. All the other staff were sweet and kind though. I would’ve loved to dine in and give a generous tip to the sweet girls serving, but he ruined the vibe...
