My recent visit to Tonantzin Casa de Café was unfortunately not up to par, and I believe it's crucial to provide an honest and constructive review that can benefit both the owner and potential customers. While I strive to maintain a professional tone, I aim to highlight areas that could use improvement while offering valuable feedback.
Upon entering the café, we were the only customers present, and it wasn't particularly busy. Despite the lack of a rush, we experienced an incident that raised concerns about the attentiveness of the staff. It came to our attention that we were about to be charged for an additional latte, even though we hadn't ordered or received it. Only after we brought this to the employee's attention did she acknowledge the mistake with a rather nonchalant "oh yeah," and subsequently removed the charge. This incident left us questioning the level of attention and detail given to our order.
Moving beyond this unfortunate occurrence, I must address the quality of the overall experience. Regrettably, the beverages failed to impress. My horchata latte, for instance, lacked the careful craftsmanship and attention to detail that one would expect. It left a chalky aftertaste and lacked the love and flavor that could have enhanced the entire visit. Similarly, the iced lattes, considering their prices, were disappointingly subpar.
The culinary offerings also fell short of expectations. The tamale I ordered lacked the vibrant flavors and freshness one anticipates from this traditional dish. It felt as though it had been stored in the freezer for an extended period, and to our disappointment, it arrived slightly cold. Moreover, my fiancé ordered the empanadas, assuming that the plural listing on the menu would yield a serving of at least three petite pieces. However, only one empanada was served, resembling a snack-sized portion rather than a satisfying meal. The value for money was considerably lacking in this regard.
Despite these shortcomings, it is worth noting the positive aspect of Tonantzin Casa de Café: the Mexican-style outdoor seating area. It authentically captured the ambiance of Mexico and provided a nostalgic setting. Additionally, the availability of outlets for computers and other devices was a thoughtful addition that enhanced the practicality of the space.
In conclusion, I rate Tonantzin Casa de Café at three stars, taking into account the ambiance it offered. However, there is substantial room for improvement in various aspects. Ensuring attentive and friendly service, while also focusing on enhancing the quality and portion sizes of the food and beverages, would significantly elevate the customer experience. Lastly, I would like to mention that the incident regarding the latte charge raises concerns about attention to detail, which should be addressed promptly. I hope this review serves as constructive feedback for the owner and helps potential visitors make informed decisions. Although our initial experience in the art district was less than ideal, I believe that Tonantzin Casa de Café has the potential to grow...
Read moreI own a local artesian coffee shop in South Dakota, and let me tell you, these folks know what they’re doing!! Every time I’m in denver I make sure to stop by here. I’m never disappointed!
-The mocha picante is delicious with an INTENSE kick. -They steam their cappuccinos RIGHT! The horchata is amazingly creamy hot or iced. -The Dulce De Leche latte is perfect for people who love sweet drinks. -If you’re feeling adventurous, try the atole! Not my favorite, but it’s nice to switch things up and try something new. :]
This time around I had the Tonantzin Mocha, but had it as a breve, iced, and added macadamia syrup. To die for. If you don’t know what to get here, I highly recommend!! 😻 Their chocolate is out of this world.
I can attest, their syrups are very high quality too. Although I do love when cafes make their own syrups, the brand Monin is some of the best syrup you can buy. No high fructose corn syrup, hardly ever have artificial dyes, and the flavors come through sooo...
Read moreI am really sad to be writing a bad review for this place because it has so much going for it that I love. Great food, good drinks, awesome location, cool vibe. I really liked this place. My issue with them was I was charged 6 times for my order a couple weeks ago. I called multiple times to try and get this figured out but it always went to voicemail and their recording mentioned events from several months ago so it was clear they didn’t check it often. I left a voicemail anyway and never heard anything. I emailed them through their website and never heard anything. So I had to call my bank to dispute the charges. I intended to pay $20 for two coffees and a pastry but ended up paying $120. I wish them luck but will not...
