I wish I could offer a positive review - cause we’re all out here just trying to make a living. There are so many 5 star reviews here so I was confused by my ridiculous experience in case you are considering checking this place out.
The massage therapist seemed to have little to no understanding of basic technique, anatomy, body mechanics or massage etiquette. While she was very strong, her applied pressure and strokes were random (in pressure and location), with no synchronicity or symmetry (totally different things on left and right sides of body, it seemed like she did not remember what she had done on one side as she (maybe?) attempted to recreate it on the other.)
I asked multiple times for her to drape me more professionally (ie - not throwing the blanket off me at random intervals to expose my cold naked body for no actual reason).
I asked her numerous times to stop invasively rubbing down my back and into my butt crack with massage oil (not a lot of muscle that needs releasing there). I literally showed her some basic massage strokes (like how to use her forearm to stroke down around the glutes and circle back up the leg and around the hamstring; ie actual muscles that would benefit from her extreme strength).
However, she could not (refused to not?) recreate these strokes, instead throwing the blanket off me again and aggressively rubbing my inner thighs directly up towards my private parts with intense pressure and quick rhythms.
I was actually moved to laughter on the table several times bc the whole thing so obnoxiously hilarious. She’d throw the sheet off me again, I feel the cold air hit my nether regions, I’d redrape myself or ask her to stop/ direct her to touch me in a different way. She’d throw the sheet off me again to do something similar. It was like a compulsively repetitive loop.
I asked her to rub my arms, again showing her some basic strokes, since i was clear by this point that there was not any actual technique going. She was unable (again, unwilling?) to recreate the strokes I showed her.
I literally demo-ed massage to the massage therapist I hired to give me a massage.
I eventually just asked her to rub my feet for the remainder of the time, as I was forced to prepay and was hesitant to just walk out with money literally on the table. surely this could be salvaged, right? Even the foot rub ( I dare not call it actual reflexology) was obviously lacking in any kind of technique or practice.
Overall, it felt like a very strong child was playing massage therapist, not a professional massage. On the bright side, my butt crack is the most well lubed it’s ever been. Insane.
As I was leaving I noticed a sign advising patrons that this is a legitimate business and to please refrain from asking for “additional services”. If all massages here are required to have the therapist intensely massage the clients’ upper thigh from the knee in towards the pelvis and suspiciously close to the private parts, even when the client specifically asks that they stop, is it a wonder that these signs need to be in place..?
Anyway, my point is this- there are lots of ways to give massage and what I received was lacking in technique of any kind and also just general awareness. Language barriers or not, this person was not qualified (or even interested in?) offering an actual massage.
Not everyone needs to be a licensed massage therapist but in this case just requiring some basic education (like, watch a couple of YouTube videos, or flip through an anatomy book?) might help before claiming to offer professional massage.
Hilariously absurd experience. Do...
Read moreDefinitely a 5 star in my book and here's why. I've been going to the Asian Spa for the last 2-1/2 years, generally 2 visits per month. They are very friendly, courteous, honest and respectful of your privacy. They are like a massage therapist and chiropractor in one. You are not going to have all the compliments as the massage places downtown, but I prefer it that way. I don't need sandals, a robe and other things that only drive the price to over a hundred dollars per hour. Most importantly they are very reasonable in price and give an hour massage. So with that said, if you don't go there, you're missing out on a way to treat yourself. One other thing that I should mention, they will taylor your massage, I exclusively only have my back, arms and head done. Looking forward to my...
