I had the pleasure of visiting this market this past Thursday. It was clean, organized and well stocked. I soon discovered they had a hot self-serve food station. Everything thing looked delicious, I read a color coded chart that stood on top of the food station that read dark green meant the dish was vegan, Every item available was listed on a dark green label. It didnāt matter to me I was getting me some anyhow it looked so good. I sanitized my hands and put on gloves before getting my food container as the sign stated. Just as I was scooping some Mac n cheese a lady came out. I asked ā so everything is vegan? By my surprise she snaps ā now why would you think itās vegan when you see chicken up thereā I said youāll lil saucy anit you, Iām just reading the sign she goes on ā nall Iām just saying you see macaroni and all that other stuff and you gone ask if itās Veganā at that point i politely walked to the trash and tossed in the half scoop of Mac I had managed to get in my container and walked away without saying another word. The audacity she had to speak to a customer as if I was some idiot and if vegan chefs canāt do amazing things or if vegan cheese donāt exist. That was a horrible first visit, probably the last. I Donāt know if the theme was rude restaurant. But WTH just happened was all I...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI finally got to check this place out as it's a short walk/bike ride for me. (Yes, there is ample bike parking) š²š I was very excited to finally see this come to fruition and support my local community while getting groceries.
Their selection was surprisingly good with great deals on local faves and gorgeous (and some local) produce! They even had a wonderful garden plant selection from Keep Growing Detroit, and a variety of foods to meet special diets (vegan & gluten-free selections.) Their bulk foods were well priced and unique in options. I did get hot food from the Commons; dining on the BBQ chicken, Buffalo wings, and mac n cheese was a religious experience!
5 stars for friendliness, cleanliness & and selection, although I hope they get more dairy free options for milks/creamers. Also, I hope they fix the glitch in the system that charged me $18 for $1.67 worth of bulk walnuts. I went back to the store to get a refund and they couldn't figure that out, so I'll likely never get my $18 back, but it doesn't sully my experience and I'll just consider it a donation to a good thing in my neighborhood. In the meantime, check your receipts until they iron out all...
