Holy moly cannoli was this the best outdoor winter experience ever. All thanks to our boy RANDYY!! Meeting randy felt like seeing an old friend you havent seen in a while. (Never met him till that day). We have never gone ice fishing prior to this experience and were going back and forth between the 4 hour and 6 hour sessions. My group and I are from upstate NY, but knowing what we know now post the 6 hour experience.. DO IT FULL SEND THAT!!!! It was so worth it and 6 hours didn't feel like enough time. Last time i fished was when i was a wee babe with my dad. Dude i had so much fun. Randy knew his stuff and was such a comfortable presence. Complete chiller he was. He had his two Siberian huskies pull a little sled to carry all of the equipment. My dudes they were the cutest sweetest calmest doggos i ever met. SO FLUFFY TOO. We met him by the lake and followed him across the lake to a great spot he know. It was a slow day with the fish biting in that first spot, but we had such a good time at that first spot with Randy we didn't even care that the fish weren't hungry for some snacks. Randy was extremely knowledgeable on any ice fishing topic. From how to hook the bait to the technique of reeling in a fish. We felt like we could take on the ice fishing world with his guidance and insight. After a couple hours he knew of a top secret spot with some SICK views. We hiked a little under a mile to the next spot and wow. Like totally breathtaking my bros. I was speachless. He drilled the holes for us and got us all set up with our rods - instantly the fish weren't biting!!! Trout, salmon and more. The dogs were so into it too, they would sit with you looking at the hole. They get so hype with you when you get a fish. They dont bark a lot it more of an "excited alertness" they express. Its so friggen cute. At the end of the trip he helped us with gutting the fish so they were ready to cook that night. Knew exactly what he was doing! We brought a cooler for the fish and a cooler for our brewskies and snacks. One thing I cannot recommend enough are hand warmers. I personally have terrible circulation to my hand and feet snd those were my savior. It was about 25° or so that day. Was a sunny day though!!! Oh my gosh also DONT FORGET SUNSCREEN!!! Exposed skin will get sun burned because the snow amplifies the intensity. My face is a tad burnt and i tried so hard to be against the sun 😂 anywho, Randy is a GOAT. Best tour guide we could have gotten. Thank you so much for such a unforgettable experience :) 6 hour session is WORTH it. We were working on a tight budget for this trip and took a risk with this. Dude if we knew how fantastic it was gonna be we wouldn't have been so hesitant about dropping the money on it. Full send that shit my...
Read moreWe had a great time and our captain was very nice and accommodating. Unfortunately we fished during August in lake dillon and only got 4 fish in 4 hours. Completely understandable cant control what fish are eating! The only thing I wish more ppl mentioned is that this is a trolling only charter, Fishing for very small salmon. Cool we can deal with that. But what i did not know was this is for young children and amature fisherman. We sit and wait for the pole to get a hit then we are able to reel it about 6 feet. The captain grabs the pole and has to unhook a snap on weight. Then u can continue to reel it in about 2 more feet until the captain will grab the line pull the fish out of the water take it off the hook and hand you a fish to take a picture with. I mean I've been fishing 30 years I think I can handle catching a fish. So for that reason I definitely only recommend this to small children under 10 as it may be enjoyable for them. As for me I just enjoyed the 4 hours cruising the same 50 feet of water back and forth and let my kids catch the other 3 fish we got for the day. No hate on the charter at all just not what we were expecting. But the views were beautiful and our captain was very nice.
Edit: you must have the wrong customer sir. We fished lake dillon for 4 hours on our fishing charter. And we also asked of we could cast lines we were told NO!
So anyone reading this review just know this was a full 4 hour charter on lake dillon that started at 830am to 1230pm and did not catch anything. Also were not allowed to fish off thr boats. Lastly my kids were NOT free we paid $525 for 4 hours and cut it short since it was pointless to keep...
Read moreWe are not fishing people - in fact, my kids had never fished before in their life. Before our summer trip to Summit County, they decided they wanted to try fishing, so based on the many positive Google reviews I signed us up for the 6-hour Green Mountain Reservoir guided fishing tour with Randy.
Despite my hesitation that six hours might be too long or too difficult for fishing newbies aged 7-13, this hands-down was a highlight of everyone's trip. Even before we returned to shore, all of the kids were gushing, "we should do this again next year!".
Randy was very knowledgable and had us catching fish in no time. He taught the kids how to do basic fishing tasks, and let them reel in every fish. Even though his expertise led to most of their catches (like using different types of lines and sonar), they all walked off the boat feeling accomplished and happy.
The kids caught around 30 fish during our adventure, including kokanee salmon and lake trout. They were excited to take many of them home, and Randy kindly fileted them for us at the end of the day. Most importantly, we got some great photos and stories from the trip that we'll be talking about for years.
Green Mountain Reservoir was a beautiful setting, and I really enjoyed taking in the views between our many catches. We were one of the only boats on the water too so it felt peaceful and private. It was absolutely worth the drive and earlier morning start to fish in this location.
Thanks again to Randy and the Alpine Fishing team for giving us such a memorable experience - looking forward to fishing with you again on a future trip to...
