I WAS DISCRIMINATED AGAINST AS A BLACK WOMAN AT THIS STORE!!
I have been going to this store since they were located beside the Coldstone on Chapel Hill Rd. Unfortunately, my experience has to be shared to bring attention to the discrimination I experienced a week ago. June 18th, I put all of my pending purchases on the counter. It was about five bottles of wine and three bottles of liquor. The total came up to approximately $280. And I regret spending even $1 that day. Once I put the bottes on the counter, the lady asked to see my photo ID. I showed it to her with no problem. While she was scanning my items, I pulled out my debit card. When she finished scanning and before I put my debit card into the card reader, she asked for my photo ID again. I was confused why she needed to see it a second time. But, I showed it to her again. Then she asked to see my debit card so that she could compare the names on the cards. I thought that was really strange. And I said it out loud that I wasn't sure why she asked for my ID a second time. During that time, a white guy comes to register next to me with his bottles. He goes through the same process. Store clerk at the register asked for his ID. The white guy shows it. He proceeds to scan the white guy's items. The white guy pulls out his debit card. The reason I know it was debit card is that he punched his numbers in to complete the purchase. So, again, I point out the issue of the lady asking for my ID a second time. And then I say to the lady that the white guy was not asked a second time. She says to me that she had to check my age. First things first, I'm 42 years old. So, there is no way that after checking my ID a first time, she thought I was under 21. Second, she compared my ID to my debit card. Meaning she wanted to make sure that the card was mine. My issues is that this process was not completed for the white guy standing next to me. He was able to show his ID one time, insert his card, input his numbers, finish his transaction, take his bottles and walk out of the store.
I WISH I would have left ALL of the bottles on the counter. I was so caught off guard by this experience that I didn't react in the way that I should have. I have a duty to speak out about blatant discrimination against any black person. This was clearly a situation where she assumed that since I was spending almost $300, the credit/debit card didn't belong to me. Based on my experience, I will NEVER purchase anything from this...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe ladies who work there have the WORST ATTITUDES because they lack good English. Clerk Id 1 on 8/23/24 was rude and definitely do not need to work a register. As I walked away after my purchase she spoke in her language under her breath. I guess she was cussing me out in her native language because she definitely do noy understand ENGLISH that great. Be GLAD I did not have time to return this $300 purchase. I am sure I could have gotten better service and probably a discount for the number of bottles I purchased from a different store. I guess I was taken too long shopping and discovered one woman worker following me around the store.1st and last time I will support Chapel Hill Pkg. All the alcohol I purchased thru out the year for events I can find much better service!! Put the women on the...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreEver since this place moved from its old location to this old drug store location it has done nothing but improve. Great beer & wine selection as well as hard liquors. Prices are competitive and unlike the old location there is room to move around without being afraid of knocking something off a shelf. However, it is a bit tighter than after they moved. Seems like they can't say no to a bulk deal, but that does bring the prices down. Devil and the deep blue sea on that one. Overall, it's a great place to stock up your bar or buy cases of your favorite. Discounts are given on cases, last I checked. Remember, it's all about making room for more bulk orders to keep prices down. So shop your local...
