We have been coming to Amish country in and around Berlin for last two decades, plus. Make it a once a year trip, with Covid we did not go last year. We made the trip last week. Disappointing is an understatement. It has become a tourist trap for the unsuspecting. Commercialization has moved in, many of the crafts are manufactured and way over priced, went to several antique shops, was disappointed at what was passing for antique. The Christmas shop had more plastic, mass produced, ornaments, than not, what wasn’t, you would need a bank loan. We live in southeast Ohio and have seen a increase in the Amish moving to our area. Still beautiful country, rolling hills, however, saw less and less of the buggy’s on the road, less of the Amish on the streets and working in restaurants and shops.
