Disappointed and Disturbed by Poor Food Handling Practices
I am incredibly dissatisfied with the way this establishment handles food. My family and I have been regular customers for a while, but recently, I have noticed a significant decline in their food handling standards.
During my last visit, I witnessed a worker coughing over the food they were serving. This alone was alarming, but what happened next was even worse. I ordered half a dozen doughnuts, each a different variety. When I got to my car and tried one, I immediately spit it out due to its sour, spoiled taste.
I went back into the store to address the issue. I explained to the worker that the doughnut tasted off and pointed out that I had two of the same kind. She offered to exchange the two doughnuts, throwing away the one I bit into. However, to my shock, she placed the other untouched doughnut back on the shelf for sale, right on top of the other "fresh" doughnuts.
I was stunned and had to ask, "Are you really going to sell that doughnut to someone else?" Her response was, "Well, you didn't touch it, right?" with a clear attitude. I then asked if she would eat food that someone else had returned, to which she replied, "I don't eat here."
This experience was appalling. It revealed that the employees are aware of how poorly they handle food, to the point where they wouldn't consume it themselves. This blatant disregard for food safety and customer health is unacceptable. I am deeply disappointed and will not be returning until significant...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreSpence's Bazaar has been a WONDERFUL place to visit FOR MORE YEARS THAN I CAN COUNT!!! I sojourn there as often as I possibly can!
The Amish foods (donuts, meats, ice creams, desserts, candies, etc., etc.,) are SUPER EXCELLENT ~ as expected!!!
I've purchased more foods, fruits, vegetables; tomato/pepper plants; fresh, LARGE strawberries; jewelry, hair jewelry/items; clothing and shoes [new and used]; comforters, ALTOGETHER CAPTIVATING blankets and SO, SO, SO MANY OTHER NOVELTY ITEMS at Spence's Bazaar than I can possibly EVER COUNT!
Everyone should visit Spence's. Just ONE TRIP to that place and you'll be captivated for life. My hubby and I went there when we were just married 38 years ago, and we've remained faithful, loyal patrons ever since. We've known some of the vendors for many, many years (and some of them are truly WONDERFUL, AMAZING, AWESOME PEOPLE).
It was burned down by some arsonist juveniles a number of years ago and the owners were uncertain of rebuilding; however, the merchants of Dover, DE, (possibly some of the vendors themselvesć?ć) and/or citizens got together and decided that THIS PLACE was too important ~ REPEAT, TOO CRITICAL TO LOSE, so they got together and it was rebuilt (Who did it exactly? I do NOT KNOW). I won't presume and/or pretend that I do!
There are many different vendors who rely on sales from Spence's. Those of us who are clients rely on it/them as well. What an AWESOME PLACE TO VISIT!!! I highly recommend it to EVERYONE. It's...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIt was my first time there, and I can't wait to go back again. From the moment I walked in the smell of fresh bakery items just hit my noise. I was like a kid in a candy store I didn't know what to choose from because I wanted to try every spot. We had breakfast sandwiches, the young ladies carry themselves so well, so polite. Just felt like a big hug. I had a steak egg and cheese with peppers and onions, and my husband had this chicken sausage with spinach and feta in it. He let me try his, I want that sandwich on our next visit , that was my first time having that type of chicken sausage and now I'm hooked. The steak sandwich WOW. I honestly thought that the meat was going to be tuff because it was a thick cut of beef but no, the meat was so tender, and so fresh. BEST steak egg and cheese I have eaten so far. I can't wait to return I'm looking forward to trying the mini donuts that they cook in front of youš„¹. I'm going to increase my workouts just so I can keep...
