Obx Sugar Shack — Local services in Duck

Yes a 1 star! This is deserving from what MY EXPERIENCE was at the Sugar Shack. Maybe with a different employee on a different day I could have given a higher score but for this experience alone- they get a 1 star. We were in the store for 3 minutes. By we, I mean, my 15 yo daughter and I. We drove down from Va Beach that morning, had gone jet skiing, had an incredible lunch at Roadside (their getting a 5 star) and wanted something sweet to follow. So we found this little place down the road and upon arriving loved the beautiful color of the entrance door so we stopped for a photo op. When I turned around the employee was just staring at us like we were dumb or something. No worries, brushed it off! So we entered the store and proceeded to make our way around. We received no type of greeting from her until I said Hi and she responded hello. Two minutes later, my daughter picked up an alligator pez pen and jokingly at me she made a [roar sound] and squeezed the lever for the alligators mouth to open. IMMEDIATELY, the mute employee says (very loudly) " PLEASE DON'T PLAY WITH THOSE THEY BREAK EASY!" Isn't a toy that has a lever to open and close meant, to be opened and closed? If this pez pen is so easily breakable, I probably wouldn't be telling people that or better yet, not selling them. Immediately, after her comment was made we left the store. I dont support businesses that judge people as I felt we had been. the employee in reference was a Caucasian female, and she was working on Saturday around 6 pm. I really think it would do this employee justice to take some customer service training classes. Hopefully, she will learn to not make assumptions and how to properly and effectively service customers. Since I live in LA, I wont frequent this store any but I will share my review with my...

DELICIOUS!!! And, such a cute store; Love their selection of Harry Potter candies and drinks; They have delicious fudge, especially the chocolate and peanut butter. And, they have the BEST salt water taffy I've ever eaten; However, one younger member of their staff came across as very under informed/ educated. The store offers a discount to all military and ex- military. However, she did NOT know that the word veteran is used to refer ex- military. It was so sad, disappointing and disrespectful (in my opinion), to witness a member of today's youth be so dismissive and unaware of the risks and sacrifices our military and ex- military have/ had accepted, to preserve every American's freedoms and liberties. Because I found my encounter so appalling, I gave them 4 stars, instead of 5. But, if I was reviewing the Sugar Shack based solely on the quality of their food and drinks, I'd give them 10...

Stopped in since chocolate is me and my wife’s vice and we wanted to support local while visiting OBX. Saw quite a few tasty looking treats including a chocolate peanut butter bear and peanut butter cups. Got the bear, some Buckeyes, and a couple of PB cups to go. Staff were very nice and helpful as we picked what we wanted. Tried the PB cup once we left and was…not impressed. The PB had less flavor than a Reese’s and the chocolate didn’t really taste that great either. Was hoping the bear would taste better. Got home and shared the buckeyes and ate the bear. The bear was very dry, with flavorless PB insides and tough chocolate exterior.

It made me sad to eat this. And I never want to be sad...
