Clever Clover — Local services in East Lansing

I love this store. They have the cutest jewelry, clothes, candles, posters, plants, and incense. Being one of the only places in EL that sells incense I find myself frequently in this store. I have had fine experiences every time, except for today. I walked into the store with my friend to purchase some incense, so naturally we had to smell all of them as we always do. After purchasing four cases of incense and about to walk out of the store, the cashier finally decides to get off her phone, walk over to the incense table and immediately accuse us of stealing. As we are walking out the door she screams "HEY, where is the romance incense?" We looked at her in confusion as she continues saying that it was there before and it is now missing so obviously we took it. She did not let us leave and continued saying that since we were smelling it, we stole it and waited for us to give it back. I have never stolen anything and I have NEVER experienced such disrespect. It is disappointing to see behavior like this, I hope clever clover reevaluates the staff that they hire. I understand she was trying to do her job, but she was incredibly rude and ill-mannered in attempting to handle this situation. She could have stopped to think "hmm maybe being on my phone was distracting and next time I should pay more attention."...

Love this spot for gifts, in fact I bought almost all of my Christmas gifts here this year and I just bought my partner his valentine’s gift from here. They always have the cutest items, and an excellent selection of puzzles. A little pricy for smaller items like cards or stickers, but that’s to be expected from a boutique like this.

The only thing keeping this place from being a perfect five stars for me is the employees. It can be very hit or miss how they treat you. I’ve had wonderful experiences where I’m greeted and have my questions answered, and other times I’ve been completely ignored except for “Your total is…” Normally I don’t really care if employees greet me, but the vibe in here is weird sometimes, like you’re being looked down upon as a customer. cutest boutique! i visited my first time on msu’s campus and loved it. some things were a teeny bit pricey but the sterling silver jewelry and crystals were both super reasonable. they have a pretty small crystal selection but they have amazing variety, better than some actual metaphysical shops!! i even met the owner while i was there, she is the nicest lady with the cutest store....
