Hereâs my honest experience.
I hate leaving negative reviews, even when a service is mediocre. But I feel like I need to share my experienceâbecause as women, we all know how expensive it is to get our hair done, and when we spend that much money, we expect it to be worth it.
I came to this shop really excited. I got medium-sized Boho braids. Iâve had this style done twice before (somewhere else) and absolutely loved it. This time, I decided to try Yasmine's in East Orange . I even brought my own human Boho hair bundles, which cost me $175. Of course, they also added the braiding hairâbut I specifically wanted my full head done with my human Boho bundles.
To help move things along, make you pull the hair apart yourself âwhich Iâve never had to do anywhere elseâbut I was okay with that since it made time go faster. But once the braider got to the second row, I noticed she wasnât adding enough Boho pieces, she was adding one piece of boho and leaving some with out boho just a braid and she wasnât braiding to the bottom she sported where my hair was . I politely asked her to please add more pieces and to braid it all the way to my mid back at least . She told me it wasnât done yet and that it would look nice in the end. By the fourth row, the same issue. I asked againânicelyâto add more pieces and braid to the bottom. She seemed frustrated and told me to speak to the owner. I asked a third time. Again, they both began speaking to each other in another language. (No offense taken but both of them speak English, so it wouldâve been respectful to include me in the conversation.) I usually hate speaking up during a serviceâI try to let people do their jobâbut I was spending almost $400 in total: $200 for the service, $175 for the human hair, and I always leave a tip ($25). Thatâs a lot of money.
The owner reassured me, saying, âYouâll get more pieces at the topâitâll look beautiful, youâll see.â But honestly? I didnât see it, and I donât believe all three of my human hair bundles were actually used. I used the same back before where they added 5 pieces of boho in each braid . I ask for the left over . She said all done. I was mad confused. Did I like my hair? No. Absolutely not. She didnât braid to the ends like I asked, and now my braids are unraveling after only two weeks in. Also !!!!!! Every time I run my fingers through, the Boho pieces they fall out. The braids are also very sloppyâthere are bumps throughout from overlapping that wasnât fixed as she braided. For an expensive style like this, Iâm so disappointed What hurts even more is seeing their Instagram, where other clients have gorgeous, full Boho braids braided all the way down. I just donât understand why I didnât get that same quality. I believe every one donât style the same and invest their time . I canât express how upset I am $400.00...
Read moreI discovered this place on TikTok and was excited to go because itâs in Jersey, so I didnât have to travel to Harlem. When I walked in, I was confused to see a bunch of people sitting around with no receptionist, just staring at me. Eventually, someone asked what I wanted. I told her I wanted small boho knotless braids. They asked around who would do them, and a lady in the back agreed.
They sat me down immediately, but even though my hair was already blow-dried, they decided to use a blow dryer that looked like it had never been cleaned. They started pulling at my hair, and I wondered if I had done something wrong. My hair is sensitive, and I noticed that other customers weren't treated as roughly. Instead of asking me to adjust my chair, the stylist just pushed it aggressively.
When they started braiding, I initially saw two people working on my hair, which made me think it wouldnât take long. However, only one person ended up braiding my hair. To make matters worse, the braider kept farting, and the smell was horrificâI almost vomited. After each braid, she used a rat-tail comb to yank my hair, leaving me to wonder if she had a personal vendetta against me. When I asked if I could step out of the shop, she questioned where I was going, as if it was her business. She ultimately wouldnât let me leave.
Iâve had knotless braids before and never experienced this much pain; she was gripping them tightly for no apparent reason. I also saw a cockroach, which grossed me out. Another girl was treated poorly; she had come in for extra small boho knotless braids, but they told her they donât do that. They also refused to let her use her human hair pieces, likely because they werenât pre-packaged braiding hair. It was clear they were giving her medium-sized braids instead.
Also, be prepared to bring cash, as they donât accept cards. If you try to go to the Bank of America across the street, theyâll treat you like a thief. They even followed me into the bank while my things were still in the store. One lady left her station to yell at me for leaving my phone. If you have cameras and my stuff is still there, why are you yelling at me?
Iâm only giving two stars because my hair turned out decent, but itâs so tight I feel like I got traditional braids. They collect payment before the service is done, which is unsettling. A lady came around asking for payment before I even had a chance to see if I liked my hair. At this point, I regret not going to Harlem. My overall experience here was unprofessional, rude, and lacking in...
Read moreI Arrived At The Salon At 4:30am On Saturday 04.05.2025 After Numerous Calls & Even Walking In To Inquire About A Leave Out Sew In For My Growing Out Pixie Cut.I Was Advised That They Would Be Able To Catch My Hair In Order To Do So. They Were Already Busy So I Knew I Would Have A Wait. Luckily Within An Hour 1 Female Became Available. She Advised Me That She Wouldn't Be Able To Catch My Hair & That The Boss Would Be Arriving Around 6-6:30 And Would Be Able To Catch It. Receptionist Doesn't Arrive Until About 7am And She Advised Me That The Person That Can Catch It Currently Has A Customer (Which Was In Their 3rd Location Around The Corner). Due To The Time I Kept Asking If Could Meet With The Woman So She Can Determine Herself If She Can Actually Catch It. Receptionist Kept Saying She'll Come Soon (Soon Turned Into 8:15 am & Still No Show Up). I Asked Again If I Could Meet With The Woman & The Receptionist Seemed Skeptical & Decided To Walk With Me Around The Corner To The Individual. The Woman Had Someone In Her Chair And Was Wrapping Up. I Was Advised By Her That She Can Catch It. So I Began Waiting For Another 30 Minutes. Once In The Chair I Advised The Stylist That I Would Like My Weaving Net To Be Applied Over The Cornrows Before She Begins To Sew. She Then Refused To Do The Service Saying She Does Not Do The Sew In Like This & Doesn't Know How To Apply The Net. I Then Asked If She Could At Least Do My Cornrows & She Also Refused. She Walked Me Back Around The Corner To Advise Them That She Will Not Be Able To Do It. It Seemed Like They Were Trying To Explain To Her About The Net & Then Even Asking Her About Doing The Corn Rows & She Still Refused. So I Was At The Shop From 4:30am Until 9:15am Without Being Serviced And Poor Communication. Let's Keep In Mind, During This Time I Watched Two Individuals With Hair Shorter Than Mine Get Box Braids Done. HORRIBLE & VERY INCONSIDERATE! With Being New To New Jersey & Trying To Find A Braider For Not Only Myself But My Family & Having This Type Of Experience Was Horrible. I Left Out & Ended Up Getting My Hair Done Amazingly & Fast By A Dominican Salon A Few Doors Down On Main Street (Who Also Has Black African American Stylist).I Was In And...
