5 Elements Gem & Mineral — Local services in Eugene

Called to ask if they purchase from local people, they flatly said no not at all.

What's the point of a local rock shop if it is only showing you varieties from afar? I thought they (rockshops) were to make the local gems and minerals the stars; when I offered richardson uncut thundereggs from the opal bed, they refused and said they really never buy rocks at all.

Not sure why the entire time I've been into rockhounding (10 years plus) the tale is to contact local rockshops to sell things, and apparently this is only an old wives tale; because the person over the phone said that was never the case for their store. It left a sour taste in my mouth is all.

Some reviews state this is the 'only' rockshop, and that the others are more spiritual-nonsensey, but I'd take spiritual nonsense over coldly shipping in crystals from another country to make a profit here, at least they'd consider your own gems and minerals.

I had taken dozens of pictures and had them prepared if the person was to ask; and instead they just said no. Not sure if it is the economy or particular legalities; but I didn't even get to show my rocks to them before they were literally rushing off the phone. They felt harried and anxious, as if they were being berated but I hadn't said anything but asked if they bought rocks.

It was a really weird...

Its weird for me to see all the post about what a nice and friendly guy since i dont believe ive had a chance to see that side, Wed, Jan 19th i had stopped in to see if i could possibly inquire on some gypsum type crystals i had recently gotten and was greeted with," I was about to leave the room, so i hooe its quick or important", further into the conversations i had asked some simple questions of value, rarity and opinion and got responses like if i had got the items from public land its theft and then got irritated because i asked about value and thought i was trying to sellsomething to him, believe he had said he's tired of people thinkin that he will just buy whatever they bring in, i could go on and on, im glad you people that have had posted had good experiences, i rate 5 star on products and1 star for professionalism and...

If I could give more than 5 stars I would. I came in looking for rose quartz and left gaining much more than that. The owner, Robert is beyond wonderful. Our few hour conversation was one of the best conversations I have ever had. His openness, ability to listen and be genuine plus his strong communication skills truly shows. I am very glad I was able to stop by and learn about him, myself and the world as a whole. I am so thankful for the time I had at 5 Elements Gem & Mineral and will most definitely be back :)
