My husband and I have visited and spent hours in many game shops in our lives, and Funagain Games in Eugene is the one that has permanently earned our respect and our business. The game store is just the right size, with a wonderful selection. If they donât have what you are looking for, they are happy to order it. The gaming space is the nicest in the city, and always seems to accommodate anyone who wants to play there. There is a good balance of people playing Magic, board games, and role-playing games. Most game stores seem to succumb to the trap of pandering only to a certain gaming crowd. Not so at Funagain games. The people who gather here to play games are a diverse group, and we have made many friends. But after frequenting Funagain Games weekly for over a year, it is very clear that the the success of this game store can be directly tied to the incredible people who keep the store running. Cordell and Cary are both wonderful - they are efficient, attentive, helpful and engaged with customers in a way that makes Funagain Games feel like not just a place to buy really cool games, but also like a vibrant community gathering place, where people can socialize in a healthy and connected way. In an age where our exchanges as humans have become increasingly impersonal, this environment is a breath of fresh air. We always look forward to going into Funagain Games, and whenever we need game-related merchandise, there is no place weâd rather spend our money. This is a real gem of a game store, and we hope it stays this way long...
Read moreThis is a mid sized board game/rpg store here in Eugene. This review is solely for the retail location, as I haven't used the neighboring community gaming room. They've got a lot of variety, but a recent experience here really soured me on this local business. I had bought some card protectors for $3.50, and realized later they were the incorrect size. I hadn't remembered to get the receipt when I bought them the previous day but I didn't imagine that would be a big issue, the item I was planning on exchanging for was the exact same price and brand just in a slightly different size. In addition to that, the item I was returning was unopened. The cashier refused to consider a simple exchange of an unopened three and a half dollar item without a receipt according to the internal return policy, which I didn't see posted in the store. I like to support small businesses because they treat me like a person, that was not my experience in this store. What's most unfortunate is that I've been shopping here for years but will reconsider that if this is how they've decided to treat people here. Even Wal-Mart is happy to process exchanges without a receipt, I just don't understand why they went this far to deny a routine request that wouldn't have cost them anything. It's a frustrating and unnecessary experience that I would expect from a corporate chain, not a...
Read moreHorrific experience doesnât even come close to the experience I had when I made the awful mistake of stopping in on this store. This was a couple weeks back as I havenât had time to write a review until now but I work in marketing for a major gaming company out of Seattle Washington (I did not tell the gentleman that âhelpedâ me this) because I didnât even have time before this man literally verbally accosted me. The company I work for enjoys hitting smaller venues occasionally and weâve been stopping in and talking to several Oregon stores on our way back through from California (we weâre very well received at the Fun Again Games in Ashland OR) to see about doing events. The second I mentioned crowd funding this man, (which we and many other major gaming companies do back crowd funded games, as itâs a great source for finding new talent and the next best thing) got extremely hostile toward me and when I logically tried to defend myself he moved to passive aggressive insults. At which point I literally walked out of the store. Huge missed opportunity for this location... isnât to hard to figure out which card company out of Seattle I work for and because of this employee we wonât attempt...
