I debated whether or not to share this experience, because I know I appeared rattled when I came in, but given a few days to think on it, it really wasn't OK.
I felt so uncomfortable the last time I was at the squirrel. I have PTSD and was having a panic episode when I walked in. I was polite, quiet, and just looking for a safe space to sit and charge my phone.
While I was sat at the bar counter, which was mostly empty, I was completely dressed down by the bartender. It was very clear that they thought I was a problem from the moment I sat down. I was carrying a shopping bag, which I was told to move off the seat next to me because someone might want to sit there (the entire row of bar chairs next to me were empty, no one was desperate for a spot to sit), and before I even had a menu, I was told I needed to order something if I was going to sit there, I assume because I only got a water to start.
I use to serve and bartend, so I can understand being leery of someone who appears anxious, but the way they talked to me was unwarranted. It was very clear to me that they were displeased that I was taking up space at their counter and they probably have issues with unhoused people, which I am not, but I was treated as such.
I ordered a $15 steak salad that was dry, chewy and subpar, I left them a twenty without waiting for change just so I could leave. Here's another tip: treat people better. They know...
Read moreI didn't know i had my cloak of invisibility on today. We came in today, Friday 4/12 right at 5pm. There were a couple people outside and one group at the bar on the end. It was looking really slow. We sat in the middle of the bar to give the other group at the end their space. The tall girl bar tender with the round circle tattoo on the back of her neck wouldn't even look at us. A group came in on the other side of us and she quickly took their order. The guy said something and she said yeah it's pretty slow right now. Got them all their drinks and they went outside. Another person came up a couple mins later. Same thing. Quickly got their drink and wandered off. Then a 3rd group. At that point we got the hint. The bar was dirty in front of us from whoever actually got service before us from their food and drinks which she ignored that mess too. Cleaned every other part of the bar. Why? This was our very first time here. Went down the road to Chambers bar and grill and they were definitely busy. At ourselves and the friendliest lady came up and gave us menus in record time. Being nice isn't hard. Idk how you could hate someone so much before even speaking to them that you put that much effort in to ignoring them and making them feel...
Read moreHorrible experience. Bartender came out from the bar to inform us that "when I'm busy dont be surprised if I ignor you, you'll need to come up to the bar for your drinks. (Sorry What?) Then while taking our drinks I said, "I'll have a Margarita with a side car of Grand Marnier. She said, Oh, O.K. then turned to my friend and asked what she would like. My friend replied, "Screwdriver." She then asked my friend if she would like that on the rocks with salt?" To which I replied, No, I was the one who asked for a Margarita, she just wants a Vodka and O.J. The bartender then said, O.K. One Screwdriver and One Cadillac Margarita. To which I said, "whatever." We were served one Screwdriver and one regular Margarita. After 30 minutes had passed she came out from the bar and asked me if I wanted anything else and I said that I wanted my shot of Grand Marnier. She said, "Oh, I just floated that on the top of the drink (which was a lie) and asked me "what did you expect." To which I said "a shot on the side as I had asked you for." She charged me for the shot and the drink.
I will never return to this...
