I am a donor for Save the Children and have been since 2004. At first, I donated to them after the tsunami in Asia but I have donated every year since then because Save the Children is one of the most efficient charities in program to expenses ratio. I have learned since then that they not only provide emergency relief but also other non-emergency programs for children (like education) overseas and in the US, a fact I didn't know. They also appeal to me because they support all faiths and religions and not just one. Children are universal. I am a father of 2 kids and that is what made Save the Children appeal to me. Recently, they decided to do away with individual sponsors effective in August of 2025. I voiced my displeasure and told them I would make my final donation in July. When I logged in to send my sponsor child a final email, I saw they deleted her profile and my payment method. After losing my trust in Save the Children, and large nonprofits overall, I have found out that we don't have to use third party to help us with "helping" others (as, sadly, you never know how the money will be used and if it will be used as you intended).
The reality is that there are too many people hurting right in front of our noses, who need our help, all we have to do is look. Only when you help directly, can you vouch that indeed your contribution...
