I purchased a groupon. First walk in and am asked if we are having hibachi. We say yes the waitress try’s to get us to sit at the big table for the show. It’s only two of us. We say we would like a regular table. We get to the table and are handed menus. We get to ordering and the waitress hears again that we want chicken hibachi. She says “ you should be down there or over there” at one of the big tables for the show. We insist that we are just going to have it at our table. We have been to many restaurants and ordered hibachi in the dining room no problem. No show no problems. This waitress clearly had an issue with it! For the rest of the night it was clear she didn’t care about us. I had been to this restaurant once before and used this Groupon as well and sat at the bar and had no issues. The food was just ok nothing great. I have had better elsewhere. We get to the bill and I see that there is a $8 sc charge. The waitress did not explain well what this was! She said it was because of everything going on.. and stuff and I took it as “ it’s a coronavirus fee kinda thing”. I ended up asking again before we left. What exactly is this charge? She said “ It’s a service charge for the chefs and staff to prepare your hibachi.” So here’s must of been the case. We didn’t do what she wanted and didn’t sit at the big grill for the show and so she thought she could just charge us the same service charge for the hibachi at the grill because we just ordered hibachi. Never a word about Tip until I asked about this charge specifically! The entire experience sucked! Saturday night at 6 pm only 3-4 tables the entire time we were there! Table by us had the Groupon voucher too! I am not surprised the place was empty! Not good staff at all! Sadly we had to over pay for the service charge! I would of left $6 for a tip but instead had to pay $8 for the service charge! We will never be back! I kinda wonder how long this place will stay in business! If everyone is there with Groupon’s they probably won’t be for long! I paid $13.50 for a...
Read moreI’m not one to leave bad reviews, because I know life is hard in the times we’re living in, but I also believe that if you’re paid to do a job you should at least try. Which is what this place didn’t even do from the moment we stepped in the door. Now, mind you, we didn’t even make it to the food portion of this restaurants offerings, but truth be told, I don’t feel I’m missing out. Take this with a grain of salt because for all I know the food could be out of this world, but all I know is it’s just a hassle to try to get it. So anyway, we walk in and the person standing watch, I assume, saw us and immediately makes a phone call in front of us instead of at least acknowledging our presence. Fine, you know, maybe she was calling the hostess who was supposed to seat us. Another person emerges from the kitchen and also ignores us. The two workers converse, while we stand there. After a solid 5 minutes we get ushered to the hibachi seating. We weren’t there for hibachi, but they didn’t know that since they didn’t ask. We told them we were there for sushi, to which we get the reply, “ok sit over there”. They point us to an empty dining room where we just pick our seats. We’re in a completely empty dining room with not a soul to be found—patrons or waitstaff included. We sit for 20 minutes, waiting for at least an acknowledgement or a water or something to indicate they haven’t forgot we exist in this empty dining room. No one approaches. We see staff refilling candy, stocking the bar and assorted sauces and despite repeated eye contact and gestures—no one shows up to acknowledge our existence. So that’s where our journey with Akita sushi ended, with us walking out and going 3 minutes down the road to Sweet Basil where we dropped an inordinate mount of money joyfully for some...
Read moreI'm only giving this an extra star because the sushi was good. We came here at about 7:30 because we had a Groupon, and were the only people seated in the non-hibachi section. It was obvious that we were completely forgotten, as I had to go to the bar and ask for water after sitting there for 15 minutes. When our server came over, there was no acknowledgement of the fact that she had not so much as gotten us water in about 20 minutes. Within the time that we were waiting for our food, another couple had been seated, forgotten about, and then left after they still did not have water after about 10 or 15 minutes. Our waitress handed us our check without asking if we wanted anything else. The price seemed high, and she kept insisting that it was with the Groupon. Spoiler alert: it wasn't. Fortunately, the bartender was able to take off the proper amount. The issue was not the quality of the food. And to be quite honest, it wasn't really about the fact we were left there to wait. It was the fact that when I told someone that we'd be there for 20 minutes, no one there really seemed to care. There was no acknowledgement of the poor service. Not even a "sorry about the wait". Nothing. No one ever came over to see how the food was. No one asked if we needed anything else (if prompted, we probably would have gotten more sushi, their loss!) We saw our waitress three times: when she took our order, delivered it, and then wordlessly and unprompted gave us our check. Was the sushi good? Yes. Could it ever be good enough to make up for the service? That...
