I am NEVER going to this clinic again. Very frustrating experience and they are EXPENSIVE. Much better choices available in the area.
They REFUSE to give you an idea of the wait time. Other clinics in the area give wait times online and have posted wait times when you walk in. Other clinics allow you to check-in online and do some of your waiting at home instead of spending hours with a miserable, sick child in a walk-in clinic wait room. The day in question was right in the middle of the flu season and the other clinic showed a 3 hour wait time online. I called the UofU clinic to ask what their estimated wait time was. They absolutely REFUSED to tell me anything, because "people can walk in and it can change at any time." Yes, I understand that people can walk in and times can change, but I just want to know if I am looking at a 3 hour wait time or not. Even after talking to two different people they would NOT tell me anything or give me any idea of what kind of a wait to expect. It was kind of weird actually. I decided it wasn't worth the risk of a 3 hour wait with a child with the flu and instead to go first thing the following morning.
VERY INEFFICIENT - I went in early and arrived as they were opening. My husband was waiting until I got back to leave for work. We were the first or second patient to be seen. We got into a room quickly but had to wait a long time to see the doctor. At first she said she wasn't going to test my son for flu because his sister had been diagnosed with flu two days before and it wasn't necessary. But she she did test him for strep because she had seen a lot of people come in with strep and flu together. When the strep test was done she said, "well lets just test him for flu to make sure." So instead of running both tests at the same time, we had to wait an extra 25 minutes for the flu test. And THEN she forgot to call in the prescription. The pharmacy is just across the hall, so it should have been no big deal. The pharmacy called over to the clinic, but the doctor was in with another patient so we had to wait for her to get out before she could send over the prescription. And THEN she printed it out manually instead of sending it electronically, so the poor pharmacy guy had to run over to the clinic to grab the manual prescription print out. And THEN they only had half the necessary amount of medicine, so we were going to have to come back later to pick up the rest. That whole process cost us another 45 minutes at least. So, based on perfectly avoidable inefficient mistakes, my husband was over an hour later for work than he needed to be. We all make mistakes, but it was just one thing after another after another and it was extremely frustrating.
COST - As I said, my daughter also had the flu. Two days before went to a different walk-in clinic in the area for exactly the same service. Not only was the other clinic much more efficient, but when the bills came in, the UofU clinic cost nearly THREE TIMES the amount. I was shocked when I saw the bill. We have a high deductible plan so we feel those bills. It wasn't a matter of what our insurance did or did not cover, its just that they charged A LOT more for the exact same things. For a much more frustrating, inferior service we got to pay a couple hundred dollars more.
This was our first experience at this new clinic. We were trying it out to see if we liked it. Verdict: I am NEVER going back. The only reason I would ever consider going back is that they do have extended hours, so depending on how desperate I was... But each piece of our experience was far inferior to other clinics in the area and we had to pay a lot more for it. Not...
Read moreCalled to see if the urgent care could do a flu test on my son, they stated they could so I drove all the way out to their clinic and arrived at 10:06 p.m. They had a nurse come out to do a nasopharyngeal swab on my 18 month old son. The nurse barely stuck the swab in his nose, maybe about a centimeter. When I questioned him if he had gone deep enough, he just dismissed me and said that he "got it". He told us he would call us in 20 minutes with the result. It was now around 10:20 p.m. My husband waited for the result in the lobby while I took our son out to the car. This facility also has a pharmacy across from the urgent care. Both close at 11 p.m. We had been given a prescription for Tamiflu by our regular pediatrician in case the test came back positive, so that we could start my son on treatment within the first 24 hours of onset of illness as this is the most beneficial time to start the treatment for influenza. At 10:50 they still had not called us with the result, so my husband asked reception if he could get the results. We were then informed that the lab technicians were no longer available to read the result. My husband told them that the test should've been read before the lab left as you only have one hour to accurately read a rapid flu test or it becomes inaccurate. We didn't understand why someone could not just simply go look at the result as we were sure the lab would have completed the test before closing. The receptionist went back to check with the rest of the staff and then informed my husband that we were out of luck and that they would call us around 7 a.m. with the result. We were upset and didn't know if we should start our small son on the Tamiflu or not. It put us in an awful position as the treatment needed to be started within the 1st 24 hours to be of most benefit to our son. We felt we had no choice. We paid the 42.00 for the RX and started our son on a medication he may not have needed, mind you a medication that is currently in short supply that many other children do need. In honesty, we knew the nurse did not perform the test correctly, but were hoping if the result were positive that we would feel better about giving the Tamiflu. In the morning, we received no call back at 7 a.m. so we called at 7:30...no result. I lodged a complaint, which I'm quite certain went absolutely no where, and was told that we would be given high priority and they would call us asap with the result. No one called us until after 10 a.m. We were then informed they had some bad news for us. They just left our test sitting out, even after my husband told them, before we left that night, it had to be read within 1 hour for accuracy. So the test was no longer good and they were not able to process it. This is an extreme lapse in concern for positive patient outcomes and quality of care. The result of the test would have been directly linked to how soon my child could start treatment safely with the Tamiflu. As practitioners, they know this. They know that the medication needs to be started within the first 24 hours for best results and outcomes. The fact that they left our test sitting there, is inexcusable. Furthermore, why should we have to tell a nurse how to do a nasopharyngeal swab?? Why should we have to tell these people that a rapid flu test needs to be read within an hour?? This is craziness to me. Shouldn't providers have to know how to do their jobs? Just awful care...

UPDATE: This place did the classic "we investigated ourselves and found no wrongdoing" kind of bullcrap. This is laziest, most uncaring place I've been to. And now that red bump is back. Let's see what other kind of BS they want to pull this time.
Absolutely horrible. They used to be pretty awesome. I've had a golfball sized dark red lump on my thigh for about 2.5 weeks now. Normally the average person would be quite concerned about what's going on and would want to run tests to find out. None of the three doctors I've seen here want to do anything except poke me with a needle and conjure up some random explanation that isn't proven by anything. The medications I've been prescribed? Allergic to two of them, then told incorrect information regarding the third one. How unprofessional do you have to get before something changes? I am seriously considering going to a whole different hospital system if they are so uncaring.
They've wasted so much time and money to be of no help. In addition, their recommendation was to see a general surgeon to have them look at it since they're not authorized to do it themselves. Well, they could've told me that 2 weeks ago when this whole thing started, and have been available to just see me a week before that. And guess how long you have to wait for the general surgeon? A MONTH. Yes, a whole 4 weeks. I don't know if this is a tumor or a viral infection or some other crap. It's already gotten so much worse in this amount of time. I wonder how much worse can it get in another month.
Also the scheduler guy cancelled my backup appointment without my consent. Now it's mid-November. How freaking stupid are these people?
TLDR: AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS. They will never own up to their mistakes and they are utter trash, putting all the blame on their patients and being underhanded in how...
