Look I am not the type to leave bad reviews because truly I could really care less... My experience today was just AWFUL!!!! From what I was told by owner she owns all three stores Once Upon A Child, Clothes Mentor and Platos Closet. I walked in Once Upton a child to drop of some items to sell. I went with my kids and also the kids I was babysitting that day to the store next door Clothes Mentor.. Started looking around, my kiddos were playing being KIDS while I was looking around. The owner started yelling at my kids "stop running before someone gets hurt please". I am thinking like okay I get it my kids are doing the most lol so I also said to my kids please stop running you guys can play just don't be crazy. The owner said it a SECOND and THIRD time to my kiddos. I said oh ok so this lady has something against my children... My kiddos were simply playing hide and seek (right where I can see them) I told them to just stay with me didn't want to cause a big deal with the lady. As I was looking at some clothes my kids were looking with me saying "oh wow look at this shirt this is so pretty" which again they are KIDS!!!! The lady yelled out to my children "please don't play with the clothes" I said okay that's enough this woman is genuinely just crazy. Then she yelled "Mom can you please tell them not to mess with the clothes" I said YES I GOT IT THOSE ARE MY KIDS. Mind you NO one was hurt my children were not destroying her store/ merchandise they were just being KIDS and having a good time!!! I walked out of the store and said Jesus maybe you just shouldn't have kids in your store then!!?? Walked out of the store and walked to Platos Closet next door. I was looking with my children and they were laughing and playing wasn't touching any of the merchandise. She actually FOLLOWED me to the store and came up to me and said "I'm sorry I just don't want your kids to get hurt because they are doing the same thing here" I'm like lady WHAT IS YOUR PROBLEM???!!! They are CHILDREN having a good time??!!! I asked her do you have kids or grandchildren??? Do you not know kids can't just sit still all the time?? Let them be kids!!!!! So I put a shirt back that I was going to purchase walked out of the store and this lady followed me outside of the parking lot acting like she was picking up trash I guess from outside which is so WEIRD like what is your problem???? I didn't say too much and wasn't trying to because I had my kids with me.... I walked in Once Upon a Child to see if my items were ready for pickup. She then followed me in that store and started walking though the isles!!!! The owner is RUDE, DISRESPECTFUL and not UNDERSTANDING AT ALL!!!! A COMPLETE KAREN IF YOU WILL!!! Why own a kid friendly clothing/ toys store if you have something against kids being kids!!?? It's crazy!!!! Now I'm going to also say this, if my kids were TRULY being disrespectful to the store or just being crazy I would've walked out and came another time because sometimes that happens! I have dealt with it before. I have been going to Once Upon a Child for awhile now and the owner is definitely losing a customer!!!! DO NOT RECOMMEND SUPPORTING THIS WOMEN'S...
Read moreThe worst experience I have ever had with one of these stores. The owner is so rude and called the police on my cousin because she wanted to collect her items. She showed up at 5:54 and they had already locked the doors, acted like they didn’t see her waiting. When they finally came out and she asked to get her items they called the police on her. The owner is so rude and racist. Never sell anything here.
Black women need to be made aware that the owner weaponized the police because she didn't want to be bothered. Please be safe black women and stay away from this place.
UPDATED To reply to owner: I'm not the person you are speaking to in your comments. I didn't come in with a large container. I came in to pick up items that my cousin had tried to retrieve the day before. She showed up at 5:54 and you and your employee acted like you didn't see her at the door. She had driven from Lumberton after calling your store to ask what time you closed. She waited for you and the employee that were ignoring her to come outside. When she asked about collecting her items, you told her she didn't get there on time which wasn't true. Then you called the police on her even though she didn't even raise her voice (she has a video so you can't lie about it).
I came to get her items for her because you made her feel unsafe.
As a young black woman, a new mother, and a doctor (and yes, an MD) calling the police on her was egregious and unnecessary. Because she asked for her items back during store hours? She has a baby who is less than two years old and a full time job. She just needed her items back. You endangered her life by calling the police because you didn't want to be bothered. You weaponized the police.
ALL BLACK WOMEN need to be aware that this store could do the same...
Read moreConsignors beware!! Very disappointing store that is a deterrent for any consignor. They have a good selection of clothes as a buyer (although prices a bit high for being advertised as so “affordable”). As a consignor however, it’s incredibly insulting what they pay as well as what items they will take. I went in a few days ago with a basket full of clothes… probably 30-35 pieces. They passed on all but 5 items, claiming the rejects were “old & worn”. Funny, because the dress on top of the reject pile was brand new without tags dress that I bought at the end of the summer… a beautiful navy blue sundress that was practically brand new. I asked the lady behind the desk to show me specifically what “wear and tear” it shows. She said that she wasn’t personally the one who made the decisions over my basket of clothes, but she seemed confused because “it looks great” (to her) & fit their stores aesthetic. I was told that the other pieces of mine were too small & that they don’t accept my size (a few of the pieces were XXS, although they were NOT fitted styles… they were winter, oversized pieces that fit more like an XS/S). Lol so much for being size inclusive! To top it off, 2 of the 5 items they wanted had tags on them… the Anthropologie dress had the $318 price tag on it. The new with tags beautiful mauve hat had its $150 price tag on it. The total that they wanted to give for for ALL 5 ITEMS was $21.00. I had to have the lady repeat it twice so I could process what I was hearing. Incredibly insulting prices for consignors and not size inclusive. It’s definitely highway robbery and taking advantage of those hoping to consign nice items to a local brick &...
