It's great if your looking for a playground packed with unsupervised kids that also happens to have climbing not so great if you want to climb. The reason for the 1 star is Ruth, she's the reason they are losing my membership and I already know others who are canceling because of her as well. All the routes are the same, a straight line and all predictable. There isn't any effort required or planning to top, if you can go in a line you can top all of them. It's boring and not worth the membership fees as unfortunate as that is and that's because of Ruth. They got rid of the one good route setter who set challengeing routes that made you think and any good ones are already gone that he set. The GM Ruth is a bully and disrespectful, she only cares about having as many birthday parties as possible and isn't interested at all in building a climbing community. They can't keep good route setters because of Ruth, she chases anyone who has their own mind away and it's sad to see. Ruth won't allow members to lead climb because she saves that for the kids who are in the "training camp". The training camp is really them running around and doing whatever they want unsupervised while the woman who is supposed to be training them is on her phone. I can't tell you how many times I've seen an unsupervised kids almost get kicked because they were under someone climbing. It isn't "training" it's daycare that happens to be in a climbing gym. They don't care about the members who pay to climb there which is so sad to see. So if your looking to climb and not be worried about the hordes of unsupervised kids this isn't the place for you. It's sad but I don't see this place staying as a climbing gym for much longer, it's going to turn into a place for birthday parties. There are much better climbing gyms around and I'd rather pay them more per month then be here and be around Ruth and watch her destroy this climbing gym when all she sees are dollar signs. I can only hope the owners see her and see what she's doing before it's too late, before the...
Read moreIt seems more like a Day care center, but no control. Children flood the place with no supervision, Parents in the sitting area with thier faces in their phone, thats a Saturday. It's not open on Sunday's (when folks seem fill up tri angle climbing), so you are out 52 days of climbing with a membership. You have to make it work, If you want to try and at least climb for fitness try off days during the week, I don't want to bash the place, just telling like It is. I wish I would have known what to expect up front. The punch pass is the way to go, at least your not burning a full membership if your looking for a climbing facility. Options to work on lead, or other climbing techniques are not available, minimal self belay systems. If you're looking to get in real climbing reps or to do multiple tasks try somewhere else. The staff has been great and try to accommodate. My previous post I meant to leave one star, open not...
Read moreThe Climbing Place is very children and family friendly as there is a whole section of the gym dedicated to kids. Because of this, there is often hordes of kids running around which can be disruptive to other climbers. Staff is friendly enough, I've had better interactions with some over others. There is a good amount of top roping available and a separate section for bouldering. I think the space is used well and definitely gives you enough options to come back each week and try something new each time. The grading feels soft, so if you're an experienced climber, expect to climb higher grades than you might in other places. There are also slack lines, climbing logs and ropes, and a ninja warrior section set up to try in between climbs. It occasionally feels dirty in here - I think a fresh coat of paint on the climbing walls and surfaces would go a long way for the gym given how long it...
