I was in town on business and decided to go to the Fayetteville Farmer's Market, which is held on the lawn of the museum, formerly the old train depot. The museum staff was outside handing out fans, snacks, and drinks and inviting folks to take a free tour of the museum. I was glad they were there or I would have missed a really enjoyable experience. In addition to archival photos of the early days of Fayetteville, they also had items donated by the individual featured or by family members, which added a lot more depth to the story. I spent more time in the museum than I did at the Farmer's Market! If you're in Fayetteville, you should check out this little slice of...

Such an important part of any history buff's itinerary. Local & cultural history for all to enjoy. They have a historic treasure hunt with a prize at the end for little and big kids alike. Did you know Edgar Allen Poe had a home in Fayetteville? They have some artifacts from his families estate here. Are you a baseball nut? They have a room dedicated to baseball WITH some info on the famous "Babe" Ruth himself. Enjoy transportation or fire department history? They have the annex dedicated to just that. Staff if friendly, knowledgeable and willing to...

Such a wonderful experience! Loved the ability to self guid through all the different sections at our own pace, and the gentleman who was working that day was so kind and patient with answering all my questions! (I'm a history major and had a lot lol) they have an elevator and handicap accessible bathroom which helped too as not only was I 5 months pregnant at the time but I also have a heart condition that would have made taking the stairs a bit difficult. Definitely plan on going back again to support them and to see new exhibits as they...

These pictures were actually from the museum adjacent to the Transportation Museum, which you should absolutely check out while you're there. I didn't realize how rich of a history Fayetteville had. Also, didn't know how bad the city got flooded at one point in their history as well. You could easily spend a few hours here if you take your time to read everything. Even looking at everything without reading it in detail was so fun.

It's free admission and is worth checking out to get a better feel of the significance of Fayetteville. Who knew that Fayetteville had so much to do with transportation? I sure didn't and definitely learned a thing or two from here. Also, there is a small Farmer's Market on Saturdays mornings that has about 4-6 vendors selling some produce, art, and canned goodies.

A museum and an annex that provides thorough information about Fayetteville, the surrounding area, and Cape Fear. It covers history, transportation, economics, and industry. It’s free so i recommend a visit.
