Christine's Consignments — Local services in Fenwick Island

I am not one to complain often about small businesses, but our experience here was uncomfortable so I feel this is necessary. The owner said some inappropriate things while we were shopping. She had this conversation with several customers and would pivot between folks in the shop.

She began discussing healthy eating with a customer. Then she made comments about how she used to be quote "so fat and disgusting" and proceeded to pull a photo of her past self to show a customer. She made comments to a different customer how she and other people she knows go to the gym during menopause so they "aren't" fat and disgusting. At one point she made comments about a woman who was not present like: "I don't care, she (the woman) should just eat better!"

So overall, this felt aggressive for a consignment shop. I can not stress enough how it could be heard anywhere in the store...no "eavesdropping" necessary. It felt dehumanizing to people who are plus sized, people who have different medical needs, or people who have different diets than her.

I would rather give money to a shop that I feel will not judge a person based upon appearances or...

While I have shopped at this store in the past, last week will be my last time. My shopping experience was short and extremely uncomfortable as THE OWNER OF THE STORE proceeded to have very loud conversations, at times with a customer and many other times waking around the store speaking very loudly to herself and all within earshot, not only about the eating habits of herself and what others should eat, but ALSO speaking derogatory of other women who may not be in compliance of her lifestyle or size. Speaking of oneself, would be OK. Speaking bad of others in the way she did, not OK. This could be heard loud and clear no matter where one was in the shop. It caused me to be angry at what I heard, leave and not wish to come back. It was and is disappointing and disheartening to hear one speak of...

I have had the great pleasure of buying high quality goods from Christine, Rachel and Susan for over five years now. When I bought our townhouse, it was bare. I bought wonderful furniture, paintings, nautical stuff all for amazing prices and now the townhouse looks very sharp, indeed. Such a great experience.
