I have been patronizing Staples for years, used them for my office essentials & showroom supply. I recently purchased a Targus City Smart Laptop backpack for a business trip. The main zipper for the backpack came unstitched within the 1st 6 weeks. I returned it to the State College Staples, where I purchased it, to exchange it for a replacement. The manager at the service desk was extremely rude, sarcastic & was apparently did not care in any way about my issue. She said she did not have the backpack & they were no longer available. I showed her the backpack on the Staples web site & asked her to order the backpack for me. She snapped at me saying she would not be able to because I told you it is not available. I then showed her a photo of the empty hanger with the SKU code, description & item number from the backpack display from her store. In a rude sarcastic tone, she told me to call the staples 800 customer support line & that there was nothing else she would be able to do. I called the customer line while at the service desk, the lady that answered could not have been nicer. I explained to her want I was hoping to do & she was able to ship the replacement backpack to my home. She even gave me 2 day shipping at no additional cost. She did ask me why the store was not able to order the backpack, I tried to explain to her that the manager was head strong & rude with me, she apologized to me & explained to me that manage did not know how to place the order correctly. She then asked me a whopper of a question: Why did I have to call her? The manager should have been the person to call the customer support, not the customer. it seems the managers do not care to go the extra mile to give exceptional customer service, After all, the customer support tech told me that she would have been able to show the manager how to place an order over the on-line system. Everyone is pumping the concept of "Buy Local, support local businesses" But after this last situation with the local State College Staples, I will no longer shop there & I will be forced to buy my office supply & items on-line. He answered all of our questions when we looked at and purchased the laptop, as well as a couple days later when we had additional questions.
Although Kenny was extremely helpful, we were disappointed in the service from other technicians at Staples. We bought a new hard drive for our old laptop, which a Staples employee was to install. When it arrived, we brought the laptop to Staples on Tuesday afternoon. I called on Thursday afternoon to verify that I could pick it up. The employee hadn't started the transfer process until Wednesday evening. Although the employee realized on Thursday morning that the hard drive wasn't large enough, he didn't call me to notify me of this. We were very disappointed that the transfer process wasn't started immediately on Tuesday, and that no one at Staples notified us right away when they realized that the hard drive wasn't...
Read moreI wouldn't usually do this, but I had such an amazing customer service experience today at the Staples in State College I feel it is only right to share it. I needed to replace my laptop charger because I was missing a component. I first went to another store because they had advertised having the exact charger I needed, which naturally they didn't have in stock. They only had these more expensive universal chargers. In despair, I went to the Staples next door to compare prices. Immediately, I was greeted by an employee who helped me assess the problem and provided me great insight about my different options. He even offered to order the exact model to be delivered in two days rather than buy a universal charger. Even in our limited interaction, I felt the employee was so knowledgeable and genuinely interested in solving my problem rather than simply selling me the most expensive product.
