Black Barts RV park is inoffensive as an RV park. It is clean and mostly organized and they also provide a well designed pamphlet with a park map which I always enjoy (itās the little things, you know?). The full time people who were parked near our spot were kind and helpful when needed and the workers in the office were also nice. Their website claims nightly parking to be $60 a night, but they seem to be giving a discount of $5 dollars due to amenities being closed for covid reasons, so $55 a night. Still after the discount this was easily the most expensive RV park Iāve stayed at in my month on the road.
Due to covid the steak house on site was closed which is disappointing as they boast having a singing wait staff which would have been some much needed entertainment considering the site does not offer and WiFi connection to guests, which leads to my first real issue with this park. It is 2021, at this point most modern RVs and trailers come with TVs built in and people expect to be able to connect up and stream a movie before bed, or put on a show for their children. I know some may read this and say āyouāre supposed to be camping, why do you need a WiFi connectionā, to which I answer is: because I am paying for in city parking. If I were parked in the woods or a rest stop or at the Grand Canyon that could be a viable argument, but Iām not. Iām a mile from a Walmart and closer than that to a Dennyās, give me a WiFi connection please.
Speaking of that Walmart letās talk location. The park is located near multiple gas stations with convenience stores, a few restaurants, and as mentioned a Walmart and a Sams Club. For those parked without a vehicle in tow everything is pretty well within walking distance. However, it is also right next to a major highway which can be heard all day and all night. There is also a Truck parking lot for a near by hotel which constantly has noisy 18 wheelers coming in and out. Iām sure for those parked long term these sounds just blend in to the rest of the day, but for those of us just staying for a night or two it can get pretty obnoxious. I also recommend keeping your blinds closed at night for the headlights of those big rigs next door if you are placed in one of the spaces near them. Run your AC, some music, or a white noise machine to blot it out at night if you are a light sleeper.
The spaces themselves are nice, shaded by trees, and each come with your own personal use picnic table, but depending on which space you are given your water and electric hookups may be quite far away from your trailer as the electrical hookups are placed in the center of 4 spaces where the two diagonal spaces share it. Think a 2x2 grid where the bottom left and the top right share the same hookup. As well they only offer 50 and 20 amp hookups which we werenāt aware of. The website says they offer adapters, but we luckily had one of our own to make use of. Just caught us off guard so come prepared.
Their rules page on the aforementioned pamphlet makes a big point to not allow dogs who constantly bark. After my 3 nights here I am not entire sure that they enforce this rule in any way.
Lastly is my most knit picky complaint so you can scroll on. In the general store there are apparently tons of taxidermy (my spouse went in instead of me and told me what it was like). Among these is apparently a stuffed Raven. I personally do not enjoy taxidermy, but Ravens are my favorite animal and knowing there is a stuffed one in the store was upsetting, but I didnāt let this effect my rating of black barts. If you or a loved one are sensitive to taxidermy, maybe donāt spend a lot of time in the general store.
TLDR: Black Barts is fine, if a little expensive. I know there are cheaper places in town and I really only stayed here because they were the first place to pickup the phone while I was calling parks to find a place to stay the weekend. I probably wouldnāt stay again unless the other parks in Flagstaff didnāt answer my...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreBarts rv park is a basic utilitarian stop off that meats the minimum requirement to reset and pickup supplies at local providers- whole foods; natural grocers; and flagstaff CSA. Barts Rv park is not a resort. Looks like 60-75% of the park is older than 10yrs old 5th wheels with skirt insulation that looks used and forgotten; rough blacktop roots uplifting the ground; mostly mixed dirt/gravel; paved spots exempt; we have internet access via a mobile router that follows us where we go; so donāt depend on the parks we visit to provide access to internet; if you do; then donāt plan on accessing the net at Barts, they skips that one modern amenity that is provided by most. Oh, the front folks are accommodating and attentive; good people running the place! The general store is a skeleton closet of sorts that has some rv 911 supplies if you are in a pinch; also if u have doggie in tow; be aware there are no pet rules so its interesting to see residents let their dogs out to relieve themselves unattended without poop bags to pickup after themselves; as far as sleeping soundly is concerned- One can definitely feel the vibration of the humming diesel trucks next door and the zooming interstate highway on one side mixed with main thoroughfare traffic at all hours. The mixture in combination of sound and vibration provides for an electrifying full body experience. So sleeping is interesting. Iām pretty sensitive to all that stuff so my sleep was rough visiting Barts in Flagstaff. The bathroom has one shower and is attached to the restaurant for Patronās visiting for dinner hours. Thereās also a laundry; itās kept tidy. Thereās probably 200 spots tightly packed into this park like sardines. Itās cozy if you like that sort of thing. And if the forest friends you and this place will make you feel like you got plenty a company within feet in every direction. What I love most about Barts RV park is essential location. Just keep in mind this is not an RV resort itās a utilitarian practical every day RV park ; itās mostly a residential spot. It doesnāt have all the fancy amenities Of a typical RV resort. Thanks Barts for the shelter and a good stay to rest out...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreNOT BIG RIG FRIENDLY! When I first looked at this campground online I was put off by the nothing older than 2008 NO EXCEPTIONS. My motorhome is a 2006 Monaco but although she's 18 she looks about 5 years old :) When I called to book the staff was friendly and helpful and didn't ask the age of my coach. I told her I was 41 ft long with a 16 ft trailer so I needed a long pull through with easy in and out please. She said u absolutely need a pull through. So therefore I expected her to put me in a site that would b easy for almost 60 feet to get in and out of. We arrived late and we were shocked by the primitive sites, not level, tight turning and random vehicles parked all over the sites so it was a challange to get my large rig through. Thankfully my husband is an amazing driver and can handle just about anything. We get towards our site and there is no lights on the numbers or reflector so we ended up pulling in the wrong spot so had to back up and go to another( mind u there were vehicles parked all over the sites so that made an interesting late night challange). This time I found a flashlight to make sure what the site was and what the condition of the pad was. Very narrow and not level and rough. Thankfully this was just a quick stop for the night on the way to Moab. In the am we went to leave and noticed the site had a firehydrant to our side with big poles on either side and on the other side of the road there was a small embankment and 2 cars parked. So there was no way we would make the wide swing to clear that fire hydrant. So we had to move the picnic table and hop the table concrete pad in order to get out. Ughhhhh not a large rig friendly campground as advertised. As we drove out during the daylight we noticed how many run down junkie fulltime rvs with junk shoved everywhere there were, and we both commented, "I think these are a bit older than 2008 lol" So it wasn't the high end park that we tend to gravitate to because of the big lanes and much easier to drive a large rig through and have level spots not dirt and rock and weeds. But we were happy for a place to sleep for the night. Unfortunately we won't...
