Don’t eat here unless you want food poisoning. The food is not kept at proper temperatures while sitting in the buffet, and many of the dishes are undercooked, and raw. Upon reviewing further, we found out that the restaurant has several violations against them. Based on what we experienced, and their past violations, it is apparent that they do not care about proper food preparation procedures, or the welfare of their customers. It would be one matter if our experience was an isolated case, but based on reviewing other experiences, it’s not an isolated case. You have been warned, don’t eat here unless you want to roll the dice with potentially getting sick.
11/25/18 Within minutes of obtaining our food from the buffet, and seconds of biting into our food, we noticed uncooked chicken, pork, and all of the food was below proper temperature. We immediately let the front desk person know, and asked for a full refund. Mind you, at this point we were at the restaurant for less than 5 minutes and hadn’t eaten more than 1-2 bites of food, each. The front desk person harassed us, stating that we “took food”, and insisted that we weren’t due a refund because we “ate too much food”, and had “stayed too long”. I let the employees inspect our food, showing them the full plates of virtually untouched food, the noticeably raw food on our plates, yet they still refused a refund. I also showed the employees the time stamp our receipt, proving that we had arrived within only a few minutes, but management and the owner refused a refund. Finally, after 20 minutes of trying to politely reason with they front desk manager, the owner finally agreed to a maximum partial refund of 60% of our bill. I then expressed that we needed a full refund, because of the uncooked and poorly prepared and unsafe food, but management argued further. In effort to simply get my family out of the restaurant, and remove my small children from the subpar situation, we cut our losses, finally conceded, and left. It was apprant that we were never getting a full refund, and that the owner and manager did not care about our well being.
Within hours of leaving the restaurant both of my children (5 and 7 years old), and my wife and I, became ill from food poisoning. This continued through the night, and we’re still ill today. This is the worst restaurant I’ve...
Read more"PLEASE READ THE WHOLE THING"" Okay so we went here yesterday because we used to always go in the past and the food was always good, hot and the service was always good but when we visited yesterday it was much much different. We got the hot and sour soup off the buffet and it was just barely warm and we told the lady at the front and she acted like she didn't care. Next I got the shrimp that I usually get and again it was ice cold whereas before it was always hot and cooked just right. I don't know what happened to this place but I would strongly advise or suggest to anyone not to go here as I will no longer be giving China Star our business. And like I said before we used to always go here and we always defended China Star against anyone that would say their food was no good and was cold but now I have to agree with the many people that told me that in the past. Sorry China star you lost another customer. Don't know if this review will matter to you but anyways, oh well. LOL.... (" edited and added this part at a later date") Okay so I don't know if I am crazy or if I am just a nice person but today I chose to give China Star Another Chance by taking my wife there for a Valentine Day lunch. We sat down and got our usual hot and sour soup and started eating and right away my wife asked me "what is this?" I took a closer look at what she was talking about and it was a freaking Roach.GROSS!!!! We were so disgusted and my wife stomach was turning. I asked the manager to come to our table and take a look at what was in the food and we wanted a refund back. She gave our money back and we left and this time for sure we will NEVER EVER go back.! I strongly strongly suggest to anyone not to eat here but if you choose to check your food really good. LOL!!!! Disgusting!! ( posting this on my way to the health department to...
Read moreLet me summarize this review: never eat at China Star. Back before the Pandemic, it was a fairly reliable restaurant that served mediocre, mass-produced, relatively low-cost buffet food that children especially loved - the menu was static, unchanging, and predictable. Fast-forward to now and everything positive has slipped away to the backrooms of time. The food is expensive (more than $20.00 per person and especially for what it is). The interior of the restaurant is unbearably humid due to all the steam tables and this is ironic given that somehow, all of the food is much colder than the laws of thermodynamics would seem to allow (even dangerously so from a public health standpoint). The interior spaces have been remodeled...terribly...since the Pandemic - creating a harsh, black and white, zebra-reminiscent, off-putting ambiance that looks like it had a $500.00 budget from wish.com and was thrown-together in a single night. At first glance, the food LOOKS appetizing, but appearances can be deceiving! I would describe the food as "hard" (literally hard to chew), unusually bland, disappointing, lukewarm at best, with sauces that seemed half-thought-out and barely in the Chinese food genre. They serve a kind of sliceable pot roast, but offer no knives to guests (and this also kind of violates a rule of Chinese cooking - don't serve food you need to cut, because here you can't). This item in-particular was amusingly described by my party as "metamorphic meat" (It turned extremely hard and inedible, not unlike metamorphic rock). The only almost-good item was found in the salad bar: the chocolate pudding, mainly due to it being refreshingly cold, a welcome respite from the steamy-uncomfortable atmosphere and feelings of...
