Visited just recently and played both rooms, back to back. Was greeted by a worker immediately upon entering, and said worker knew already who we were and what we were there to play. After waivers were discussed, we immediately proceeded into the rule video. It is obvious that our time was valued and they allowed us to start early (which was appreciated since we had traveled from another city to play the two rooms).
We were led to our room, Route 66, given the intro (which this is the first room I have come across in Arizona with this theme, so very unique!), and allowed entry. We even got a few seconds head start as she returned to her desk to start our time. The room itself was simple in decor, but definitely hit the theme spot on! Thought went into every prop in the room and you could tell that even the props used had a purpose. The puzzles for this room were on the easier side, but I loved that feeling of success as we moved from one puzzle to another. The room flow was phenomenal and not at all confusing like other rooms I have recently played. Some puzzles were challenging enough to cause me to rethink my logic, but we had plenty of time as we moved through the room. I had been looking forward to playing for a while now and I was not disappointed. At the end, our control master came in and congratulated us, as well as took a few photos.
After game concluded, we were allowed to sit in the lobby as we waited for the next room to become available. During this time frame, I witnessed the control master entering the room and cleaning. I knew she was cleaning because my nose picked up the scent of the chemicals (I am fond of certain products and it smelled inciting). She spent quite a bit of time in there, so I know she was thoroughly cleaning for the next game. We also witnessed both control masters cleaning the second room thoroughly before we went in to start that game.
We appreciated the staff moving our 3pm game to 1:45pm, seeing that we had a long 3 hr journey home. The second game was their Ski Lodge room. The pictures online show the room off beautifully. Our control master (different from the first) read the narrative before allowing us in and leaving us to start. The room smelled phenomenal (only a person like me can truly enjoy the smell of cleaning supplies) Right off, I could tell this room was at a higher level of difficulty, but the control master was excellent at helping us when needed. She listened in and made sure that whenever we had doubts, she was helping us work through the issue. She helped keep my stressed self from bouncing threw the roof! She even came in and assisted with an issue we had (the room is recommended for 3 players, and that is very valid!) There were surprises that delighted the both of us and some puzzles that provedbtk be more challenging than first thought. The flow in this room wasn't as smooth as the first room, but wasn't hard to follow either, and the props fit in beautifully with the theme. I am sure that we gave bothbcontrol masters a few good laughs with our antics. Once again, upon completion, we were met with the control master who congratulated us and took a few more pictures!
After using their facilities (which were clean and had a very nice floral scent), we strolled by the room and saw the control master cleaning the space. The building in general was neat and tidy, and it is obvious that the employees go above and beyond their time to keep...
Read moreThe escape room of flagstaff is a failed adventure of a company looking to spread its reach farther and promote their larger business while ignoring the new location. The rooms seemed quickly put together with decorations seemingly only relating to puzzles and not adding to the felling of story one should experience. The rooms also seem to almost be a work in progress with not seeming set in stone and puzzles and electronics that seem setup with little refinement. And the general building seemed quickly and carelessly put together with unfinished flooring and a dismal front room. The puzzles on the other hand seemed lack luster and un-unique and lacking direction, and it created a sense of single outcome and non-interactive puzzle solving making feel as I was just reading an adventure not creating it. While my experience with the staff was enjoyable, I feel as they seemed stressed and with the lack luster performance of the main attraction I have concerns of management and their ability to lead a successful and inviting crew. And finally the largest of complaints, I witness a complete lack of sanitary precautions, rooms seemed to go uncleaned between parties and in the light of COVID-19 this is a disgrace and put my family at risk- and I do not blame the staff, I again point to failed leadership who instructed poor training and prompted staff to not worry about cleaning as it was an unnecessary expense and to not bother with mask. Upon prompting of staff on my second visit I was told this gruesome story and was promised that even though management seems to not care, the on sight staff saw some attention to the situation and went out of their way to clean behind the backs of management. I wished for this location to be an improvement upon the prior closed establishment but I fear the building would have gone yo better use being empty than ran under such questionable leadership.
I would like to edit my response as a response to management;
I am saddened to see the failure of management pushed upon the hard workers of your business forced to leave for trying to improve upon your failing business. I am disgraced to have given you my family's time and money just to be used a scapegoat to disprove negative reviews. I hope your blatant lies come back and shadow your company, as I know I will never be visiting any of your escape rooms with my family, a shame as we had been planning to visit the Mesa Location for an upcoming birthday. My family and I feel ashamed and disgusted to see you throwing your employees under you to catch the fall of your...
Read moreI don’t like to leave bad reviews.
I know that not everything is necessarily my cup of tea, but in this instance I feel like I have to leave a negative review.
We are a group of young and older adults who have done a lot of good escape rooms. We did The Stash House in LA, The Hex Room and Weeping Witch in Anaheim, The Storykeeper in Seattle and Undercooked in San Jose among many others. We have escaped from every room we have attempted. This is not to toot our own horn but to establish our credentials as seasoned players.
Yesterday we played The Crypt at United Escapes of America in Flagstaff. I usually research our rooms in advance but this time we decided to play on the spur of the moment.
Along with the excellent rooms I listed above, we have played some rooms that were not so great, but this was the absolute worst.
Some of the props looked like they were bought from the Spirit Halloween store, many were broken (not sure if that was supposed to be “on theme”) and those that were not relevant to game play were not secured, so they could be moved.
We encountered 8 locks which is way too many for such a small room and one object was used for multiple puzzles but it was not very clear how to use it for the different puzzles.
Also there is a limit of 3 hints so you are reluctant to use them thereby wasting solving time.
Finally, we expected the game master to walk us through the puzzles we were not able to figure out but they just told us “yeah, not a lot of people solve this game” and gave us rudimentary signs to hold up while they took our picture. (We wanted to document the event as the worst game ever.)
Overall, the puzzles were not intuitive and were poorly thought out. I would strongly discourage anyone from...
