Today we did a "Burger Off!" between the new In and Out Burger and Five Guys. At Five Guys we ordered a little cheeseburger with mayo, ketchup, tomatoes, lettuce, onions, and cheese (because it was a cheeseburger), a lettuce wrapped little cheeseburger with mayo, ketchup, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, and cheese, and a regular fries (this is their middle size). At In and Out Burger we ordered a single cheeseburger with their special spread, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, and cheese, a protein style (lettuce wrap) single cheeseburger) with their special spread, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, and cheese. Short answer is Five Guys won all 4 votes in our car without debate BUT if you want more details read on!
Things we loved about Five Guys! Thicker burger patty with more irregular edges to get those bits of almost caramelized beef (crispy bits). Onions cut in small squares distributed the ratio better per bite. Had more lettuce on both the classic burger with the bun as well as the lettuce burger in comparison to In and Out. Outstanding friendly customer service. Ability to order online and pick up in store. Fries were thick, perfect saltiness, and had that fresh irregularity from being fresh cut like you would find at the county fair. Fries portion was HUGE.
Things that could have been better about Five Guys: The lettuce flavor wasn't as good as In and Out Burger. Five Guys didn't have as thick of a cheese slice as In and Out Burger. The fries could have been cooked a LITTLE longer but really only the thickest fries seemed slightly undercooked. This is modifiable by ordering them well done next time. Our total bill was around $22. This was more expensive.
Things we loved about In and Out Burger! More flavorful lettuce and thicker cheese. Outstanding and friendly service. This being their opening weekend, they went out all in employees and training. I could tell they clearly support new franchises and that they will do well. Our total bill was around $11. This was the cheapest.
Things that could have been better about In and Out Burger: The two most disappointing things was the beef patty and the fries. Fries were more similar to McD's: thin and very lightly cooked. Might be perfect for some, but we were very disappointed. Not much flavor even though they were salted. The kids actually stopped eating them and that said a lot. The beef patty was SO THIN. I understand now how people can order double and triple burgers here. You need to!!
Take home: You get what you pay for. In and Out Burger will do great! And I understand why some people love them for an affordable burger! It came down to the burger patty and fries for us. We're glad we gave them both a fair shot, but it will be Five Guys for us from...
Read moreThe food always taste good but since we hardly ever come to Flagstaff, itâs our regular stop to end our trip here at five guys, but we didnât know if they changed their menu or corporate was giving them a new direction but theyâre sizing of fries has gone downhill for the price you pay. The large is no longer a large from how it was about a year ago, it wasnât just us that thought that. There was a dad and his two Boys there that felt the same way he actually brought it to the store knowledge they didnât offer to give him any reason to why. He just purchased another one to accommodate the ones that he was lacking and went on his happy way. We didnât necessarily bring it to their attention because we thought one large fry for a family of three would be enough, but nope. Not a five guys worth going too. The young gentleman working the cash register was understanding and very kind. It was the two female workers that seemed to be a little, offended by the dads remarks.
Definitely couldâve took the time to educate your customers if your policy has changed and not take offense to it or disregard his comments huge learning opportunity for everyone. Fast food is fast food, but moneyâs money and everyone works hard for it and some families only have so much, they can do for...
Read moreExtremely disappointed with this location. We came in because we recently had an amazing experiences at another Five Guys in Phoenix, and assumed theyâd all have the same standards. Unfortunately, this was the most disappointing meal weâve had from Five Guys.
My husband and I both ordered our burgers lettuce wrapped, but nothing about them was wrapped they just used two small pieces of lettuce that didnât even cover the burgers. Everything was falling apart and all the toppings were sliding out. The Phoenix location wrapped them properly, which made them easy to eat and delicious, thatâs what made us come in again.
Secondly, the fries were terrible. Even our kids were complaining that they were âlike soggy noodles.â They were undercooked, limp, and folded over on themselves.
The taste of the burgers was fine, but the presentation and quality were a complete mess. We expected the same quality and care weâve experienced before, but this location really...
