TLDR: Introverted girl with social anxiety and scalp/hair issues finally felt comfortable, loved her stylist, and will be making more appointments with Nova.
I barley get my hair cut. My hair feels unruly and I’ve never really figured out exactly how to take care of it, or what I’m supposed to do with it. My hair type is like no one else’s in my family, and it’s been something that I’ve been trying things with and just sort of shooting in the dark hoping something works. I feel weird asking stylists what would work in my hair because I feel like as a woman in my early 30’s I should already know.
This winter, and honestly every winter, my hair gets super dry and so does my scalp. Traditional dandruff shampoos seem to work for the night but they also seem to make it worse the day after. I’ve tried so much and I have not found anything that seems to help. It’s embarrassing and makes me feel super self conscious.
I noticed a bunch of split ends and how frizzy and dry my hair looked. It made me sad and I got that dreaded feeling of having to go to the hair salon - a place I never feel comfortable and feel so out of place. I went to holiday hair last time, and it was an ok experience, so I decided to make an appointment. I just chose whoever is available next.
Enter Nova. This girl noticed that my scalp was very dry and figured out the best scalp shampoo and treatment to use. She did this on her own without me saying anything. She made me feel so comfortable and explained to me why my hair gets like this, and why normal dandruff shampoos don’t work. She meticulously combed through all of my thick hair to make sure each section was taken care of. She understood that it’s hard for me to hold my arms above my head for long periods of time due to my EDS, and listened when I told her how I usually style my hair and take care of it.
She didn’t make me feel stupid for not knowing how to take care of my hair or what my hair needs. She taught me. She literally took the time to go above and beyond to make me feel comfortable. She came up with different ways to work with my hair. She gave me the cutest slight face frame cut and I absolutely love it.
I was so anxious going into this appointment. I thought it was going to be like every other time. I thought I was going to walk out feeling ashamed or embarrassed like I have so many times in the past. Nova changed the energetic direction of my day. Hours later I’m still reeling. I feel like a new woman, and I’ve been in a positive, great mood since.
I’m not sure if others with anxiety/self-conscious people understand how great this feeling is, but I found my new stylist, and I am forever grateful. Im so excited to go back when I get paid and get the products she recommended me.
It was such an awesome experience, and I’m so grateful to have gone tonight. Thank you Nova. I truly...
Read moreI went in for a haircut this evening and was met by Sandy. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed with the service. I specifically requested a haircut with layers and curtain bangs, and I asked that she keep the length at the bottom within a certain limit. However, just five minutes after sitting in the chair, she told me she was finished. When I looked in the mirror, I immediately noticed that there were no visible layers, and my curtain bangs looked more straight across than the soft, layered look I had asked for.
I pointed this out, and although Sandy seemed frustrated, she did another quick trim. Still, the layers weren’t visible, and my bangs weren’t even. At that point, I had been in the chair for less than 22 minutes, and she asked if I liked the cut. I agreed, not wanting to seem difficult, even though I wasn’t satisfied with the result.
To make matters worse, she spent much of the session chatting with the client next to me about YouTube and knitting, which felt very distracting. I ended up paying the full $31.50 charge, but I was shocked at the cost (it was also a dry cut no water used no dryer no heat) as I didn’t receive the service I requested. Out of respect, I paid, but I won’t be returning to this location again I wish I could give a no star but it would not let me post...
Read moreI have been going to Lisa to get my hair done for years and I refuse to go to anyone else. I like to have fun with my hair and Lisa is always on board with my ideas. If something can’t be done in one day (ex: going from a darker color to blonde) she will be upfront and honestly with me on the steps we need to do to achieve the final goal while maintaining the health of my hair. She’s always professional both with myself and others.
In terms of the shop, the other stylists are great too. Everyone is professional and polite to their clients. The shop is always neat and clean. I think the prices of services are also fairly priced as well. I recommend and have recommended this place to people...
