Extra Space Storage — Local services in Fort Lee

When we rented a space here, they were polite but not that friendly but it looked clean. We went to pick up a thing or two at our storage unit one day in the summer and the entire floor was pipping hot and humid (it is supposed to be climate controlled not controlled by the climate). We inquired about that incident on our next visit and they told us that "it was broken" without an apology. We pay for a year at a time to get the 13th month free. They did not send us a snail-mail or email bill but called to let us know that we are late paying after the due date. I called them right away and was only a few days late (not even a week) and they refused to let me renew on the 13 months basis until I have paid for a month separately first (that means I do not get a discount on that month plus have to commit to staying for 14 months to get the extra month free). They said, including the manager, that there is nothing they can do about it. I told them every place sends you a bill before the due date and they said whatever negotiations I did earlier there does not matter because they are not responsible for what happened before they (new company) took over the place. I told them when they take over a business, they inherit all the old policies at least until they give tenants notices of the change in policy. I had to call the regional office to get the renewal that I wanted. Then without telling me, they charged me a late fee. I still am waiting for a refund on the free 13th month which they wrote on the credit card receipt that they will give me credit manually. If nothing goes wrong, it's a decent place to store your stuff. If something is not right, good luck! The way they run the place, to me is shady. Really happy with my experience at Extra Space Storage. I checked out 2 locations and the reps at both were extremely nice and professional. The first location seemed kind of an older location, elevator was small and antiquated. I looked at a 10x15' Storage. TAnd the rep at that location answered all of my questions with a friendly attitude. The price was right, but I really wanted a ground floor locker. So, I checked another location and that's the one I chose. Much more modern, the storage locker seemed bigger, also a 10x15' locker, and it was on the 1st floor with super easy access. It cost about $80.00 more, but I think is well worth it for the simplicity of access. Smooth seamless process at both locations. It's refreshing to find people who take pleasure in their jobs and are not angry with an attitude. Special shout out to the rep at the first location, Gerard Noel III. He was very nice and explained everything in detail. Did not go with that location just because of the setting of the location. Seems like an older location. But if that works for you, you can't go wrong. And the rep at the location that I choose, Caroly Rodriguez. She was super cool.
