The 1.5 Mile Resthouse is a super handy stop on the Bright Angel Trail, especially for families or first-timers doing the out-and-back hike. It has a water spigot available, which is a lifesaverâjust make sure to bring your own bottles, as there are no drinking fountains or cups provided.
There are also restrooms, which are basic but very appreciated after the hike downâouthouse-style, as expected for a backcountry stop, but they do the job!    Read moreThis "resthouse" - which consists of an open but roofed shelter, and a couple of pit toilets - is 1.5 miles down Bright Angel Trail, from the south rim of the Grand Canyon. This 1.5 mile section drops about 1200 feet, and going back up is NOT for the faint of heart.
As one of the signs data, "Going down is optional - coming up is mandatory." In other words, don't go down this trail very far, unless you have trained, are well equipped and carrying water, snacks, extra clothing, good footwear, etc.

This stop allows for a pit stop for water, shade and a bathroom with toilet paper! Warning. Expect mule droppings on the trail. However, GREAT views and a taste for under the rim without a full day commitment. Remember...itâs easy to go down, not so easy to go up. Tips: Bring hiking poles for help on the way up.
