Park is nice Frankfort itself is very nice. But we were here on the fourth of July. Everybody bragged about fireworks. The fireworks were ok. Expected more based on the bragging and the amount of money you see living in the town or even renting cottages in town. But worst of all the traffic afterwords. They let people from miles away fill the town beyond safe capacity and then attempt to control traffic on way out. We drove in a giant circle to go 2 miles because we were blocked from going back to our cabin. Every time we'd ask can we turn here we're stayong just up the road. Nope follow the traffic then turn at next intersection. But next intersection was blocked and we were told nope keep going. It took us 45 min to go 10 miles when we only really needed to go 2.miles. Literally made me so angry I wanted pack and finish my vacation somewhere else. Why they don't sell 500 parking passes and make the rest park out side of town and take a shuttle back and forth I'll never get. Well like I said. Beautiful town. Beautiful main street. Great beaches. Beautiful homes. Very friendly people. Odd sense of huge fire works display and odd sense of traffic...
Read moreThe park is very nice with benches and picnic tables...plus a big "cannon" pointing towards the lake, as if in defense of the city. It is just south to the start of Michigan Avenue, the closest street to Lake Michigan, that runs north-south in the city. It gradually rises until between Winnebago and Park streets, where it was nicknamed "Heffren Hill" by the locals. That part is SO steep that if you try walking to the top, it can force you to your hands and knees to a crawl to make it all of the way. If you decide to drive all of the way up, better have a vehicle with a powerful engine!!
As kids who spent our summers from school on vacation in Frankfort, we used to walk our bicycles from the bottom to about a quarter of the way up Heffren Hill, then speed down it, going all of the way back to Main Street and Memorial Park w/o...
