We were on a day trip along the Northern Lake Michigan coast to visit some of our favorite little summer towns during the winter. It's almost as beautiful in the winter and still holds it's charm. Even though it was a Saturday, the quaint shops and attractions are generally closed during the winter months. Which leaves sightseeing, drives through the wooded countryside with wildlife popping up here and there and the beautiful beach to explore and admire. Lake Michigan has a way of beckoning you to it and we found ourselves a way down to the beach for a long walk on the cold, windy, beautiful beach! Before heading back home, we needed to "re-fuel" and chose Frankfort, MI as our place to stop. We decided to find Main Street which is where almost ALL the restaurants and stores are located in this quaint little beach town. We found this nice pub/restaurant to try. To my delight, way through to the "back"the of the restaurant which faces towards the water and Marina, there were a few tables with large windows. These tables where next to the door which led to the outdoor seating area. It would be a beautiful and romantic spot to eat in the summer during, which provided cover from the hot sun in the day. At night, they had "market lights" which would dimly light the eating area overlooking the Marina and you could hear the waves of the beach nearby! The restaurant prices are reasonable, I realize that term is relative and different for everyone, but they were "middle of the road pricing". We chose Mexican meals that were perfectly seasoned, made with fresh ingredients (always impressive during the winter months) and the portions were so large we easily had two meals a piece out of our selection. The menu is VERY LARGE and the variety of choices was impressive. The bar beer, liquor and wine selections were a bit pricey. Especially the wine!!!! I just wanted a glass of Riesling, bottled from Traverse City, MI and it was $12+ a glass! You can go to Meijer grocery store and pick up a bottle of that wine for about the same price! (So I would say that their menu was what earned my higher rating.) Since there are only a few restaurants in Frankfort, MI, I suppose they take advantage of demand and availability! (The closest Meijer's store was about 50 miles away! 😀) They have quite a few tables there, a modern "juke box", and 1 pool table. I would say their best feature is variety and quantity of the food! One biggest surprises that I have to say I have NEVER SEEN on a menu was that you could bring your newly caught, fresh fish caught that day and they would cook it to your liking!!! It made me smile because it goes along with the entire charm of the Northern MI small beach towns!!! Overall, I recommend this pub/ restaurant for the kind wait staff, generous and tasty meal choices and the variety of food and drinks they...
Read moreWe had a party of 5 with our tabs being well over $100. Our server Morgan had a horrific attitude, it was clear she didn't want to be there performing her job by being extremely rude and slamming glasses, food and bills on our table. One person never even received his food until the rest of us were nearly finished eating without any explanation to him as to why. The food was mediocre at very best. The pizza (which was what came late) was less than a frozen box pizza in comparison, but we never said anything because of way we were being treated. We paid our bills, tipped appropriate to service and left a note that Morgan could work on her attitude and left. It was unbelievable when Morgan bolted out the front door after us and told us we didn't need to ever come back and proceeded to flip us off and called us profane name's! When I asked to talk to the manager, she said that the manager was the one who said that. What manager would ever allow their ataff to behave in this manner let alone encourage it!? Still just shocked, but no worries, we will never patronize this establishment again. To bad too, as we have been coming here for years when we stay at beautiful Harbor Lights Marina multiple...
Read moreMake sure you check with management first regarding their current "Dog Friendly" policy. My wife Googled dog friendly restaurants in Frankfort and Villa Marine Bar & Grill came up, among others. Upon entering with our small dog in a stroller, we were greeted by a friendly young hostess. My wife asked her if it was ok to bring our dog in and she said it was perfectly fine and my wife proceeded to the outside deck. However, as I passed the manager she asked, "oh wait is that a service dog?" Right there I thought, this restaurant isn't friendly to all dogs and staff here are not all on the same page. Well I said kind of tongue n' cheek, well she provides emotional support to my wife and she said well thats all I needed to know go ahead. Well, an old bag patron didn't like that our dog barked and we had a few words with her. We decided to take our order to go which was over priced, average food. Oh, the young waitress was very nice and didn't want us to go. Moral is don't rely on Google call the place first about...
