I have only ever been around Frederick County for five months, but ever since my girlfriend showed me Catridges Galore I have made it a point to stop there every single time I come up to frederick. I started collecting Video Games in June of 2020, and between this place and a flea market farther east I don't know how I amassed the collection I did with only one store at the time. I've noticed that this store in particular is the best place to purchase CONSOLES. I've bought an Xbox 360 and a PSP that work phenomenally, and I bought my girlfriend a Wii that also works great. They are always in perfect working condition from my experience and I have made it a point in my mind to make the hour long trip for whatever console I'm looking to purchase. They also have a lot of great collectibles and special edition controllers. Their game selection is hit or miss, but I'm never there often enough so I guess I just hit after the rush. I also haven't been to the one in Hagerstown yet but I want to go up there sometime to see if the game selection there is any better. I will say if I had more money that Gamecube section looks realllll nice every time I walk in there. Their rewards program is a huge huge HUGE reason to come here though, the points system works really well here and it's helped me a ton throughout my multiple purchases and visits. The staff is also very nice and friendly, and I enjoy talking with them whenever I stop in. The next console on my list is a PS3, and I am already dead set on taking the trip up to Cartridges Galore soon to pick one up. They have a flawless track record so far, unlike other places I've been to that sometimes have scratched discs or the like, so I'm glad I can at least put my full trust in one retro game store. I would highly recommend coming to this place. Definitely a game changer in my...
Read moreSince moving to Ijamsville I was really happy to find a local retro store & I will say for the selection & pricing they are very fair. I always leave with something, staff is incredibly nice & maintain a great atmosphere. My issue is with trade ins & the lack of consistency & in some cases just awful values. I got a quote & specifically asked how long it was good for & was told it would be honored… I call a few weeks later & reminded the store I was coming & they decreased the trade in value I was getting after I specifically asked how long it would be honored because I knew I wouldn’t be making it in for a while & none of the items had decreased in value (they went up) this was after I had to call a ton of stores & was told 3 different things about my trade… 1. being they wouldn’t take it.. this was a 30th anniversary PS5 slim (NEW) 2. The other store I called said they would offer $250…. 3. Got ahold of who I believe was the manger & was told $530 which I was happy about then I ask how long it would be honored & was told it’s fine as long as I call the store & tell them who I spoke to & when I was coming (which I did right after I spoke with him) then when I called to actually bring everything in, values went down… all in all great selection, good staff, fair prices & in some cases they match GameStop or higher & in some cases they don’t & in other cases you are told like 3 different things. I would recommend selling your stuff independently.
Edit: Spoke with someone from the service:trade in department & they took care of everything with excellent service & great communication. I would recommend using the website & submit trade ins via the link. Definitely a better process & big shout out to the store manager at Frederick for always...
Read moreCartridge Galore is a fantastic game store for buying games that are not currently on the market, along with looking for gaming products harder to find: (startegy books, rare amiibos, collectors items, accessories, etc).
WHY GO HERE? : There is a lot of incentive to return regularly; with new games being traded in and out on shelves, and the monthly deals that can make buying multiple games worth the money.
EASY CARD COLLECTING/SELLING! : Despite not focusing on card collectors/traders there is a good selection of products, and the trade in value for those looking to get rid of cards is fair and easily accessible.
PASSIONATE STAFF! : The staff are all passionate about the products they are selling; it may take a visit or two to find the staff who knows about your interests, but once you do they are knowledgeable and help in every way possible!
DOWNSIDES: Going here finding a specific product is harder, because it is relient on what has been traded in: so call before hand if you are looking for a specific item.
Trading in items may take 5+ minutes to get a price; this is because the prices and condition are being thoughly checked by the associate.
Some staff are more direct then others; be understanding that this is not a GameStop and discussing the product you want or are interested in may bring up factors you may not have known about! (Some products are more pricey because of demand, availablity,...
