Although Frederick boasts a plethora of fine dining restaurants within this small city, there's really only two good Mexican establishments Mariachi and Concique! Personally the parking is easy "in and out" at Mariachi, located on rt. 355 close to the intersection with rt. 85 in Frederick, MD. As for the restaurant I give them high praise for their Mexican style comfort food. They provide all the well known dishes . . .my favorite are the Triple Fajitas with your choice of steak, chicken, and shrimp ( or any combination of three) with sliced fresh onions, red & green peppers, tomatoes, etc. served on a sizzling flat iron pan that is accompanied by an oblong plate tastefully arranged refried beans, and Spanish rice, scoop of guacamole, nestled next to freshly diced salsa. They also serve burritos, enchiladas, fish tacos, and vegetarian options, and my wife's favorite Salmon . Although I would suggest that they bring in a Spanish/Latin American fine dish selection with a chef, then prices would increase . . . but if you like Mexican comfort food, this is the place! The service is good, with wait staff refilling water glasses, and their lite tortilla chips & salsa while you wait. I enjoy their different flavor margheritas, or Mexican beers (Negra Modelo is my favorite). Interesting to note that the oval shaped dining room is a combination clear glass and double cloudy glass windows, this place used to be a strip place 25 years ago. Now they have a birthday or private room towards the rear of the dining room. ( Cute idea, no dancing poles ! )

Would give 0 stars if I could. It's just horrendous. First off, the service, it was non-existent. Waited for so long for a server that immediately after taking our initial drink order, she asked for our dinner order. Had to stop her from leaving to tell her we would like an appetizer. Big mistake. Initial drinks served, and we waited and waited, while our server repeatedly walked past us and our empty glasses until I had to stop her and tell her my wife would like another drink. So we waited and waited again while she brought food and drinks on a practically empty tray to tables right next to us. FINALLY her drink and the appetizer arrive, and this is a place charging $8 for a rum and coke. I bite into the taquito, one of 3, expecting a homemade "special" only to find absolutely no chicken, but some greenish powdered like filling, and it was still FROZEN! A $14.99 appetizer that's on the "Specials" menu that's not fresh made but "FROZEN!" The server just happened to be coming around the corner as I was spitting this out onto my plate because I couldn't get my napkin out of my lap fast enough. She takes it and asks if I want another! Now, another wait. Dinner finally arrives. I, Seafood Enchiladas and the wife, Steak Fajitas. Told to watch the "hot" plates, I notice immediately that my plate is barely warm. Of course, the Fajita plate was sizzling, but her side plate of rice, beans was cold and her cold flour tortillas were shoved completely into the giant mound of sour cream, instead of coming wrapped in foil or a separate container to keep them warm. My Shrimp, scallops, and sauce were warm, but everything else on the plate was ice cold. The cheese inside the Enchiladas was not even melted, opened them up, and it was still shredded jack and cheddar cheese. I don't send food back, don't complain and don't want free meals, the wife hates this. I asked the server for a small dish of shred cheese and non sour cream soaked tortillas so she could eat the steak since it was hot. Suddenly, the lights come up to blazing sunlight as if they are telling everyone it's time to get out. SERIOUSLY! After waiting as long as we did now, we're being rushed out. She brings the bill and announces that she removed the taquitos and took off 15%, none of which I wanted or asked for. Look at the bill to find we're charged $3 for the shred cheese I could have taken out of my lousy Enchiladas on a $75 check. 2 of the least expensive entrees and 3 Rum & Cokes, for horrible food and lousy service. Clearly, I DONT RECOMMEND, nor would I recommend Cacique or Mexicalli Cantina, also owned and operated by the same person who I...

La cucaracha, la cucaracha stay away from here. We were in Frederick looking for some spicy Mexican food. We thought we hit the jackpot because this restaurant has a 4.5 rating. Boy, were we disappointed. The waitress was very nice until we placed our order. We had asked her for recommendations but in the end deterred from them because our nacho appetizer was a disaster. We had asked that our nachos be prepared with the works, e.g. cheese, beans, salsa, guacamole, sour cream, etc - the works. We also requested that jalapeños be added to the nachos and they were brought in a separate bowl. Unfortunately the works didn’t work at all. The nachos were cold, hardly any cheese, the beans were cold, salsa not spicy or flavorful, - tasteless nachos. I tip my hat to 711, who makes much better nachos. If you can’t make nachos, the other menu items become questionable. The recommended seafood combo sounded great but became questionable. We decided to order something safe and simple - chicken quesadilla and the lunch special of beef taco with a beef enchilada. The chicken quesadilla was not prepared properly, it was cold. The beef used in the taco and enchilada tasted like it was cooked in the Stone Age, dry and tasteless. I asked for some spicy salsa to accompany my quesadilla and was given a terrible Tabasco sauce. I rest my case. I left the waitress a 25% gratuity in spite of her attitude. She needs to get a better understanding of the food she is serving as well as the needs of her guest....
