Charm City Run Frederick — Local services in Frederick

I do not give reviews lightly. This place fully deserves 5 stars for the amazing service we received from their employee yesterday. I am sorry I can’t recall her name, but it is the woman who is also a professor. Often times when I am in Frederick there is a very depressed atmosphere from the people there, not this shop. We obviously don’t fit the typical Frederick type, and sometimes are treated poorly because of it. Not here. They truly are accepting of people, they are just going to give everyone shoes to run without societal expectations. You don’t know how pleasant it is to not be asked why I have so many children, or about whether or not I use birth control, which is a normal occurrence for me at stores.

I brought in four sons. A normal store would see us coming and cringe. We were greeted with a smile and this lovely woman got right on figuring out our hard cases. My children really get set in their ways. They’ve been wearing their too small shoes a while now, determined not to like any shoes. Over the summer I’ve literally purchased 40 shoes from Zappos for them to try and all were returned because they didn’t like the fit or comfort, etc. I was so happy to get our children fitted by Charm City because they are the experts. I know jack squat about shoes. They spent an hour finding the right pairs!

They have a great return policy. You’ll get expert fittings. They are very dedicated. Money doesn’t grow on trees, especially for our big family, but every penny I spent here was worth it....

I ran my last pair to death and I had moved so I needed a new shoe - I searched online and was happy to see that there is a local shop. Yesterday, I stopped in to see the Charm City Run team. Since I knew almost exactly what I’d needed, it was an easy visit. The store recommended a different shoe than what I had before, which I was open to. We chatted a little while I was there about good trails in the area and one of them made some recommendations for me. It was a very welcoming shopping experience. I put my first 8 miles on the new pair today running, out in the municipal forest of Frederick. I also hiked around a bit while I was out. I’ll be headed to Greenbrier in a few days for some more views (one of the recommended spots) The shoes I purchased were the Hoka Speedgoat 4. The place I ran today had plenty of rocks and the tread was fairly grippy (as told by the staff too) - no slips! Also of note - the staff was of course wearing masks and the shop was very clean. We've been going here for at least 15 years to buy our son and our daughter's high school track and cross country shoes. Back then it was "If the Shoe Fits." Always appreciated the treadmill test to analyze gait and stride and the perfect fit our kids enjoyed especially when running hard races and long distances. I recently went here in need of shoes to support my ankles and spine on long walks. After a quick "walk test" I had 3 styles to choose from, all were super comfy and hugged my feet very well. I went with the Brooks brand and am extremely happy with my purchase. My long walk yesterday didn't hurt my feet or ankles and my lower back felt better, more stable. If you walk or run, your shoes matter! And the staff here is always wonderful and they help you pick the best shoes suited for your individual needs. Knowledgeable, friendly, and very helpful.
