PREMIUM PRICING—THEN DESTROYED MY VOLUME, CURLS, AND LEFT ME WITH SPLOTCHY HAIR!
UPDATE: One month later I’m getting my hair color fixed. Elegant Hair Spa over processed the blond areas so my hairdresser is having to carefully avoid the over processed chunks. I’ll have to do some hair repair treatments, too (like K18, which I’ve already used a few times since this color job). Please note: I asked for natural high lights and a trim, NOT chunks of mismatched blond, dark roots, and a terrible hair cut. To fix the hair cut, I’ll have to get more length taken off now (to help blend into the super short, over-layered upper layers), and then more blending of layers in 4-6 months. For original post, see below. The pictures were from the day after my appointment with Elegant Hair Spa.
Asked for a trim and highlights—ended up with uneven splotches, ruined hair volume, and a cow lick. When I asked for a refund, was told, “No, your hair is beautiful.” Meanwhile, my friends, family, and coworkers have all laughed at my hair. I paid $305 plus tip for this work. Pictures were taken the day after I got my hair done (she flat ironed my hair after cutting it, highlighting it so I didn’t see how bad her work was u til after I got my hair wet the next day).
I have naturally medium blonde hair and have NEVER had an issue with highlights—always come out looking really good so I’m shocked how bad she did. The splotches are the worst part but I’m also upset that she didn’t color down to the roots. I just paid a ton of money and it looks like my hair has already grown out because she didn’t cover the roots.
For the layers: I have natural soft curls. I went with my hair curly and told her my hair was curly. She proceeded to brush my hair and then trimmed it while it was frizzy. I told her normally people wet my hair before trimming. Her response: “Don’t worry, I’ve been doing this a long time.” So she kept trimming it (shorter than what I wanted) and then did the wash, highlights, and dried it. After FLAT IRONING it (I could smell my hair burning) she trimmed it AGAIN and even used a razor on it (haven’t had anyone do that in a long time because, from what I’m told, it doesn’t look good with curly hair).
When she finished my hair was flat and looked okay-ish so I didn’t say anything bad. I didn’t really like it and was just planning on not going back…. When I showered the next day, my hair got wet and instead of curling beautifully like it normally does, it had the weirdest curl pattern and looked terrible. Because of how short she cut the top layers, the natural volume is DESTROYED—it looks like I have thin hair regardless if it’s up in a ponytail or down.
I’ve never been so embarrassed about my hair. My friends and family literally laughed when they saw me. It’s awful—I mean, it even looks bad in a ponytail! My volume is gone. My curl pattern is destroyed. The highlights are splotchy and uneven…. My hair was long previously and everyone always complimented me on my hair. Now I’ll have to wait months (or longer) for my length to regrow so the layers can be fixed. The highlights hopefully will be easily fixed by someone who knows what they’re doing…. But I’ll have to pay a lot of money for it.
I wish she would refund my money. I would have agreed not to post a negative review if she just would have refunded my money (so I could afford to pay someone to fix it). Now I’ll have to be humiliated with this awful mess while I save up enough to pay someone to fix her mess. I’m so upset. Please don’t make the same mistake I did—avoid getting your hair done here at all costs!
TLDR: Destroyed my hair and refused to refund me. Paid premium pricing for something a beauty school amateur would have done a...

7/16/2020 5 photos TLDR: I was incredibly disappointed and denied a refund for a service that was not up to my expectations
I don't typically go out of my way to leave such a detailed negative review, but man do I wish someone would have warned me before I went to Elegant. While Moon was very kind and hospitable, I have never had such a disappointing service, nor have I ever asked for a refund on a service until today. Yesterday I went to Elegant Hair Nail Spa in Orange Park for a balayage. Having had this style of hair now for just under 5 years, I'm very familiar with the process and how complicated my dark hair can be. I showed her a picture of my own hair last year, attached. I still had blonde in my hair from the previous time I had it done. Moon assured me that she would put a lot of blonde in it and asked me if I wanted a cut. I said no thank you, maybe next time. She then held up my dead ends and said I'm just going to trim these, I agreed. The next thing I know she's layering my hair. She cuts a layer shoulder length, then I look up and she is going to cut another shoulder length piece, when she says "this is gone ok". She kept reassuring me that my hair was going to turn out so well. She even pointed to the picture I showed her and said "it will look like that one", I relaxed and made small talk. By the end of the visit she handed me a mirror and showed me my hair and while I wasn't blown away, I wasn't completely offended. She'd been brushing it and putting every hair in place the way it would look the best. I thanked her, paid and left. After arriving home I took another look at my hair and was mortified. Pictures below. I took to a ladies Facebook group and asked for advice on how to go about asking for a refund. I have 200+ comments on that thread now in 100% agreement that this work is absolutely not what I asked for at all. Many of these women were stylists or former stylists themselves. I drafted a message to the stylist I saw, asking politely for a refund as I wouldn't be comfortable returning for her to retouch my hair, but that this (cut and color) really wasn't what I was looking for and I just couldn't tell that in the salon- something any woman who's had a bad haircut or color likely can relate to. I was really hoping to be refunded partially, as this was about a $260 job that would need to be corrected by another stylist. Not to mention the years that I've been growing my hair to the length that it was. She refused to refund me and told me that the layers weren't choppy as I'd complained of, but that they were blended. Something no other licensed stylist will back up. I completely understand that you can't go from jet black to platinum blonde, but that is not what I was asking for. Like I've said, i have never asked for a refund for a service like this, nor have I ever left a salon and gotten home to see such a drastic difference. Moon was very welcoming and kind, but we greatly disagreed on the value of the service provided, and for that, I absolutely caution anyone considering this establishment to please rethink...
Read moreI normally don't do reviews, especially bad ones. I did have a great experience with Moon about 3-4 months ago. Unfortunately, I will not be returning to this salon. I was supposed to have a highlight and a trim 1/16/25. I stated clearly that I only wanted a trim because I was growing my hair out. Moon did some nice face framing previously, so when she asked about adding some layers to the back while leaving the length, I did not think she would take at least 6" off... I thought I could trust her advice since I was clear that I'm growing my hair and that I did not want much off. Although the highlights are not a disaster, there are weird sections with dark-light-dark strands in addition to being very stripey. The most upsetting is the hair cut. This is going to take me years to recover. My hair is thin and wavy. This cut makes it look like a mushroom and frizzy. It feels so thin and rough. The only way to clean it up is to cut it all off. I had hair past my shoulders. The "length" that she left was cut to a centered point, uneven and very thin. I wore my hair, mostly one length (with exception to the face frame). I thought something was off when she quickly rushed me out of the chair to "take pictures" of my hair. I didn't have a chance to see my hair in the mirror. When I got home, it was apparent why. I really hate to leave a bad review. This just really sucks. I was enjoying the growth of my hair. I did message her about a refund and received no response.
Update: My first appointment showed hardly a difference in length. I was provided a mirror to see the back then. It took me a week to respond to this visit as I did not want to respond angry. I was not provided a mirror (or a moment to view it) and was rushed out of the chair immediately when you finished. When I got home and could see my hair, it was not hard to tell or feel that so much was gone. I said you could keep the remainder of the gift card. I wouldn't care if you gave the refund to my generous mother-in-law. It's not the money, but a consideration of what you did to my hair when I clearly stated that I only wanted a trim. You absolutely did chop over 6" off the back with layers throughout my head. To deny what you did is gaslighting. I hope others will take note of this review.
The first 2 pics are from first appointment. The last 2 from recent appointment. Hair was cut dry and at least 6" removed can be seen best...
