We had two unfortunate experiences with Goerdt's Brewhaus. We are locals that regularly went to the Galena Brewing Company and were really excited about the rebrand and new menu, but have been majorly disappointed and unfortunately wont be back any time soon.
Attempt 1: We put in an online order on a Tuesday night, after confirming on their website and online ordering system that they were open. We drove to the restaurant to pick up our order and they were completely closed. I tried calling but couldn't get through, and checked their social media for any unexpected closure announcements but saw nothing. I ended up messaging them on Facebook and they let me know that their POS system was having issues, and they gave me a refund later that night. Fine, not the biggest deal, but threw a wrench in our dinner plans and wasted a trip to the restaurant.
Attempt 2: Two days later, on Thursday, we decided to give it another try understanding that they were probably just settling in after the rebrand. We were already in town, so we drove by to make sure they were open before placing an online order.
We placed the order at 5:32 and had an estimated ready time of 5:47. We got an "it's ready" text at 5:47, and arrived at the restaurant right after receiving the text.
We went in and were told it was not ready yet. About 20 minutes later, at 6:10, they finally brought out the food, and we left. When leaving, we noted how light the bag felt and upon checking, of the 10 items we ordered, we had received 2 items from our order, and 1 item that we hadn't ordered at all, not even close to everything. We went back and explained the issue.
Upon looking at our order again, they let us know that they were out of 3/10 of the items we had ordered. Why were they available on the online ordering system? No one knows. They ended up replacing those items with whatever sides they had available and technically threw in extra, but almost all of them were repeats of things we had already ordered and didn't really want more of/that weren't of the same value as what we ordered. (Ex. We ended up with a big extra container of fries after we already ordered fries)
It wasn't until 6:40, almost an hour after our order was supposed to be ready, that we walked out with our "order". Everything was cold at that point, but after waiting an hour we just wanted to get out of there.
Food: The food was fine, the meat had good flavor, but was dry, however it probably would have been better hot. The apple coleslaw was really good. We had ordered the 1 lb pretzel, an item we had had many times at the brewing company, but because they were out of that item they gave us a small cheese filled soft pretzel that was reminiscent of a superpretzel from the frozen section. Not at all the same quality or size and honestly pretty mushy and bad.
Overall, a really...
Read moreWe were scammed by this brewing company yesterday. We ordered two drinks, one Moscow Mule that was listed as $10 on the menu, and one beer that was listed as $8. Our bartender charged us $27 and change.
After we realized what happened, we asked him about the discrepancy in price. He said that the prices in the system are higher, and they "haven't changed the price on the menu yet." He then immediately offered to give us a free drink, which made it pretty clear that they knew exactly what they were doing. They are trying to grossly overcharge people with false prices on the menu, or essentially forcing them to buy an extra drink, depending on whether he gives you that "extra" drink or not.
On top of that, the Moscow Mule tasted like it had almost no vodka in it, even before the ice melted. They are probably watering down their liquor.
What they did is literally fraud by definition. Do...
Read moreVery little of the menu viewed online was available when my family gave this establishment another chance on Sunday, the weekend of the Galena Country Fair. We were told reservations are not available. However, there is a link on the website to reserve a table. The dining room was half full. To give the owner credit, it was fuller than it has been in previous visits. Generally 2-4 tables while other downtown establishments were overflowing. The servers had little guidance and management was nonexistent. The “remodel” included bright overhead lights and blaring music in a space that is acoustically unfortunate. The owner was present and watched as several tables of guests left after being ignored. The food presentation, quality and taste was disappointing as well. There is misguided arrogance from the owner. Best of luck to the next brave soul that attempts to clean...
