My wife and were recently shopping at Kay’s in Gastonia for our wedding rings/bands. I purchased my wife’s engagement ring there several months prior, and we were looking for our wedding bands. Her wedding band was to be “welded” to her engagement ring, for general convenience sake. Her ring size was known, and even taken again while in the store. When we received the ring back her engagement ring was made smaller by a half size, to match the wedding band when it should have been the other way around (i.e. wedding band made larger to match the size of the engagement ring). Being that our wedding is in a short amount of time, this was quite unfortunate. Staff seemed indifferent and unapologetic, in that they did not apologize. Now, for my wedding band. I wanted a two-toned band (e.g. white and yellow gold), and we found one. The label on the ring said white and yellow gold. Great! Staff ordered my correct size and it was to be shipped to the store, which it was. However, when i got home the same day i ordered it, the description of the ring made no mention of it being white gold, only yellow gold and rhodium. The description also didn’t list the ring as two-toned. I understand that rhodium is plated over white gold in order to preserve the rings appearance, however due to the listing not mentioning white gold, we called staff at Kay’s Gastonia site to confirm. Staff attempted to determine the actual composition but were unable, and tended to believe the ring was not, in fact, white and yellow gold, but yellow and rhodium only. A few days later I came onsite to the store and asked again if there was any way to confirm, to which 2 separate staff said “no”. Since the ring was already paid for, a refund was given because i was not comfortable paying for a ring that has unknown properties. This was very unfortunate because I truly loved the ring, and was highly disappointed in Kay’s ability (or lack thereof) to determine the true composition. They never apologized one time for the inconvenience and again, seemed indifferent. The lack of empathy really unsettled me, because again, this is a very important milestone in my life, and the ring i selected (over countless others) had to be returned. Had i not purchased a lifetime warranty (for cleanings and whatnot) for my wife’s ring, then I would have no desire or need to continue my business with Kay’s in Gastonia, due to there way of making you feel like just a number, and not a human being. Also, I made sure to request that they properly label the ring I originally purchased. So that this does not...
Read moreWill not go back to this location. I love Kay’s, I’ve been to many of the locations. I know everytime I go into Kay’s I get great customer experience. I have been looking for my ten year anniversary ring for months. I found one I loved at one Kay’s in Myrtle beach and saw it was in stock at this location.
Although we were on the way home from Renaissance festival I wanted to stop and see if I could look. As soon as I walked in I could hear the two women behind the counter laughing. They were both working on a cellphone. They asked if I wanted to see anything. I could totally feel the vibes were off and I said no thanks I’m just looking. They continued going back to looking at the cell phone. As I was looking around I could feel one of them starring me down.
The one lady whose cell phone they were working on told the other lady ,”go see if she wants her jewelry cleaned” it was very awkward. I’m not sure why she just didn’t ask me. The First Lady asked “do you want any jewlery cleaned?” I said no thank you.
She went back to working on the cell phone. I walked by and the lady started me up and down and made a disgusted look. The jewelry in the cases was all over the place. There was random pieces of jewelry laying in the cases and not propped up like someone has tossed them in there. I have seen this before when Kay’s is slammed and they will go back through and clean it up. It was so sloppy.
I am 100% confident if they pulled the cameras from this interaction tonight, they would see how terrible the service was. Even if there was no voice Auto at all but only silence video.
They made me so uncomfortable I would never ask to see anything or go back to this location. The working on cell phones openly I can handle, the messy store, okay things happen. The dirty looks and laughs is rude and...
Read moreI have been shopping at Kay’s Jewlers since 2007 when it was in the Eastridge Mall. I typically work with Melissa and or Jim which are both amazing. Yesterday, I went in to have my 3 wedding rings cleaned and inspected and one sent off. The lady Sandy that was at the middle counter was incredibly rude. I assume she saw the wedding boxes in my hand and figured she wouldn’t make any money off of me and she didn’t want to help. It took her a couple of minutes to finally acknowledge me and my son. I told her what I needed and she continued to bag earrings. She finally came to help and you could tell she was flustered by her body language and sighing trying to find my rings in the system. It was awkward already. She then calls over the assistant manager, I believe her name was Amanda to help her. She was saying there are two of these in there, I need to take one out. I said, are you sure you should take one out, all of my rings have multiple bands. She snapped and said that’s not even what we are talking about, that has nothing to do with this! I think I was in shock for a moment, my adult son started to snicker because he knows me and my tongue when someone is so rude for no reason. I really had to bite it. Thankfully, Amanda took over and was extremely nice. She had to go back and fix the system because Sandy didn’t even put in she cleaned and inspected them. Little did Sandy know I was also there to purchase jewelry for my daughter’s 16th birthday. But I refuse to buy anything from her. I’ll go back when Melissa is there! If I was a new customer that day I would probably never go back, but since I have been going there close to 20 years and know all of them, I knew this isn’t the norm. So I’m giving 5 stars because everyone there is amazing besides my...
