Yesterday I went in and decided to look into ordering a new iPad for myself. Though the staff seemed slightly more knowledgeable then a standard pedestrian. I asked if apple had a new iPad coming out because of the keynote they had just held. I was reassured that there was no new iPad coming out and at the current models in front of me were going to be top of the line Tech for the next year or so. Well since I was in there playing with it I decided a good demo might be to google iPad news on it, and all the articals that popped up were about the new iPad Pro releasing in 3 days. Immediately I confronted the sales man and showed him the news articles he apologies to me and then and went and asked another co worker about it. This new co worker came back and said that if I was to buy this new iPad Pro coming out in 3 days I would be given a $50 gift card to Best Buy as a pre order bonus. I was feeling fishy about everything that just happened and decided I shouldn't make any purchases today told them I might be back in the following day but was currently unsure about the product and the quality of service I had just received.
Against my better judgement I decided to go in and pre order it the fallowing business day, yes the experience was unpleasant but if I could save $50 and put it towards the Apple Pencil it would be worth it. Well roughly 24 hours later I walk in and ask the man at the checkout counter on the PC floor to pre order it. I'm given a blank look told that he needs to go get help because he doesn't know how to do that. So he calls for help and I'm stuck there just waiting for roughly 5 min to get help. They together come to the conclusion the Best Buy as a whole is not allowed to do any preorders of any sort. (I've preorders things in the past so obviously they once again just don't know what they are doing) They then tell me that I need to sign into my personal Best Buy account. I sign in thinking originally it was just for information but in reality it's because I they just want me to order it online as if I was in my house. After all of that and some more waiting too we finally get to the pre orders page and guess what Best Buy is only offering a $25 dollar gift card for pre orders. At this point i'm both angry and disappointed. So I tell both of the workers at the counter that I'm angry and don't wanna take it out ok them please go get me a manager. Well they then start making up lies about why the manager can come over and saying he busy right now. They are sorry about all the confusion but there's nothing they can do. At that point I just said I'm done I'm going to apple, I made sure to log out all of my personal information and left.
As a BEST BUY ELITE PLUS member and someone who spends roughly $3,000 in tech there a month (business purposes of course) I cannot believe how I was treated and will not be returning. I will now be making a 15 min longer commute to the Best Buy over in north aura instead.
It's not about the $50 gift card it's because most (not all) workers there really don't know much about what they are selling in prefer lying to you over telling the truth and hitting there sales numbers but hey I guess that's what the manager...
Read moreI went in to Best Buy today with my 3 month old - he wasn’t in the best mood today admittedly, and that’s OK. I had plans to come and grab what I was looking for, pay, and leave. With the way store layouts change, the product I was looking for was in a little different of an area, so I shopped around a bit, before being approached by AT&T.
This young lady approached me very kindly, and asked me if I had any AT&T products. I advised that I’d had a phone line thru them for almost a decade and that I’d played with the thought of bundling home and internet - to reduce my costs. She quickly shuffled me over to the counter she works out of and asked me for some personal information, and verified that I was “qualified” for the offer (essentially my home had fiber optic lines buried and installed)
OK, great - I qualify for what they’re offering, but I still need to get my stuff from the store that I wanted prior & will think about setting it up while I walk around. My phone and internet bill would be about half the cost of what they currently are. Unfortunately, my fussy 3 month old started another spell of fussing about - so I needed to get my stuff and leave. Whoever the dude was working for AT&T didn’t really want to take that for an answer and only could justify me switching my home internet to AT&T was that I was going to be saving about 50% on my bill and that I’d get a $150 gift card.
He wasn’t taking no for an answer, and even tried to get my social security number. I refused, and blandly told him that it no longer was happening today, and that I’d think about it in the future.
I quickly perused the store for what I was looking for (canned air) and got checked out and left. I had actually thought about purchasing a few more products, but I will get them from Amazon instead.
The hassle of going into a retail store nowadays is such a burden. I go in knowing what I want and shopping around for other non-essentials and can’t be left alone for more than 10 minutes with someone offering something to me that would be helpful sure, but if I wanted to recieve that product, I’d seek it out myself.
The young lady who was with AT&T was fantastic, she laid out what they were offering and asked me if I was interested in anything further. The young man for AT&T was a bit pushier, but that’s just a byproduct of working for a large, albeit failing company. Corporate greed lost you all a customer today, and while im sure I’ll be back to Best Buy at some point, I can only hope that i go when it’s busier and those salesmen are preoccupied - because I don’t want to be hassled when I’m just walking around with my...

I had one of the most frustrating and shady retail experiences I've ever had at the Best Buy on Randall Road in Geneva, IL.
I came in to purchase two open-box RTX 5080 graphics cards — one for me and one for a friend. They were sitting right there on the counter, available and ready to go. But when the associate tried to ring them up, they came up as “not for sale.” Multiple employees couldn’t figure out why, and then the store manager (Yenga Basolene) abruptly took both cards, walked them to the back room without a word, and later returned simply to say, “I can’t sell them to you. You need to purchase online.” No explanation, no effort to help, just outright refusal.
When I tried purchasing online, the app said they were out of stock—even though I was literally looking at them in person. I explained this to the manager, and he didn’t even care to listen. His response? “Call corporate. I’m not explaining anything.”
After a long and useless call to Best Buy corporate and then headquarters, I finally got the truth: Best Buy had pulled all the SKUs for the 5000-series GPUs (specifically 5080 and 5090 models) so that customers can’t purchase them in-store. Their goal seems to be to force everyone to order online. What they didn’t account for is that pulling the SKUs also makes online orders fail — even if the item shows available, you get an error at checkout.
So basically, Best Buy created a situation where you can’t buy these cards anywhere — not online, not in store. And to make matters worse, the Geneva store manager seemed especially shady. When I came back to ask them if I could purchase using mobile checkout on my phone as opposed to the POS system as headquarters suggested I try that, I overheard him telling his supervisor “Do not even touch them.” It honestly felt like he was holding the cards for himself or someone he knows. Why else would a manager go to such lengths to keep cards out of a paying customer’s hands, without any transparency?
If you’re looking for a GPU, avoid this store completely. Between the lack of customer service, poor transparency, and possibly unethical behavior from management, this location is not worth your time or trust.
Will be reporting this store to the BBB, as well as this manager to Best Buy Headquarters so that a proper investigation can be launched into this managers...
