I had a disappointing and infuriating experience at the GW Boutique in Pawleys Island. While shopping, I came across a golf bag I was interested in purchasing. I noticed the bag was priced significantly higher priced than what it typically sells for elsewhere, including at the Goodwill boutique store in the Neighboring Myrtle Beach area ($39.99 for a 1996 small golf bag, A comparable bag from 2000 in better condition was 9.99 at GW boutique Myrtle Beach). I politely asked an employee if they might consider adjusting the price based on the market rate or comparable items. She quickly dismissed me and stated that once a tag is created, the price cannot ever be changed— I asked even if it’s priced in error, which she responded “even in that circumstance”. Not sure how that works lol but sure.
She gave me this explanation without any willingness to even consider the context I shared, Including research from various value estimate sites.
I moved on from this item unaffected by the unwillingness of this employee conduct herself in a professional manner. It was what followed after, that was the problem.
What made the experience worse, was the behavior that followed. As I continued to look around the store, I overheard this same employee making rude and unprofessional comments about me and my wife to her coworkers. I ignored this momentarily but when it continued we decided to leave the store, as any rational discussion with this employee about her behavior would have fallen on deaf ears.
On top of this extremely unprofessional conduct , while sitting in our car after leaving we noticed her come to the window, point in our direction talking with another store employee. She quickly turned away when she noticed we had seen her.
This kind of behavior is unacceptable, especially from a store that is part of a larger organization like Goodwill. After reading through other recent reviews, I now see that our experience sadly isn’t unique. I hope whoever is in charge of this Store takes this complaint seriously as well as the other many complaints about over pricing and rude behavior from employees. They won’t have to go far to find the reviews I speak of, as there are many.
I do not know the name of this woman that I had this interaction with today because her name tag was conveniently flipped backwards after our first interaction. I will however describe her so that the store or Goodwill upper management can deal with this situation appropriately. The woman can be described as having salt and pepper hair looks to be about shoulder length, approximately 5’5, large build late 50’s to early 60’s. Hopefully Goodwill, as an organization will take my review and experience, as well as the experiences of other customers that have left similar reviews seriously, as it appears to be the trend, rather than an...
Read moreWe were on vacation last week and visited the store twice while there. We were also there about a year ago. Last year was a completely different experience. I gave two stars because I love the clothes. My family spent close to $200 on clothes this year. The first time I went last week, there was a young man at the front. He hardly said two words to me and never said thank you. We went back a couple of days later with our teenage boys since they didn’t come the first time. He was there again and didn’t say thank you. This time there were two ladies at the counter with him when we checked out. They were talking among themselves but never to me. A man came in and one of the ladies said, welcome to GW but the man may not have even heard her and did t reply. The other lady said, see that’s why I don’t even say it. The other lady said I’m not going to anymore. They were very rude in my opinion and never asked if they could help to anyone in my family. Even though I found some good deals, I left feeling disrespected. Last year was very different with customer service. I remember a lady being very helpful and friendly there. I was looking forward to going back this year. Unless the customer service changes, I won’t be back. Sorry for the long review but this has been on my mind since I’ve been home from vacation. If you would like to contact me about this, let me know and I will be glad to give you my email or...
Read moreThis is the only Boutique in the Grand Strand area and that should tell you something. This store is different. You can always find lots of clean, namebrand clothes, many still with the tags on. There’s a lot of Lilly Pulitzer and there’s almost always table full of Vera Bradley, Coach, etc & whatnots. They don’t put out junk. Great prices on golf clubs, bags and sports equipment and men’s shoes, always below the resale price. There’s signed pieces of artwork, bicycles, lead crystal, old hurricane lamps, late imperial Chinese vases, guitars, keyboards, books and lots and lots of women’s shoes. Last trip I scored a $750 Glass table in perfect condition for $175, a $340 Mink & leather Designed by J coat for $90, $140 Lilly Pulitzer dress for $24.99, a $140 pair of Merrells Moab Speed 2 that looked never worn for $50 and a Jimmy buffet margaritaville mixer with all the parts for $45. I saw a no clog Ninja juicer that I want but sadly, I’m broke..but will return!!! This place is a treasure hunt and I encourage anyone around to go by and see what...
