Habaneros Mexican Cantina — Restaurant in South Carolina

I have been dining at this place off and on over the past 15 years. The quality and taste of the food, while off every now and then for whatever reason, is generally consistent. It's mostly okay, although the taste of the salsa varies from time to time somewhere between what I would expect and basically tomato sauce. I do think that the Arros con pollo is some of the best I've had as compared to other restaurants who don't add the extra ingredients like the onions and mushrooms and such.

With that said, their level of customer service - specifically friendliness and how you're spoken to - leave something to be desired. It's not that they're particularly nasty, but just not particularly friendly. It's more like it's just strictly business with a stranger. I go there to eat and not necessarily to make friends, but in the food service industry there's an expectation that the servers should be friendly and inviting - not standoffish and make you feel unimportant. That, and for people who return regularly you would think there would be more of a rapport.

There is one woman in particular who has been there for as long as I've been going, and she might be an owner for all I know, but you wouldn't know it from the way she talks to you. I don't know her name, but she could definitely use some lessons in customer service, including how to be friendly and inviting. It's not necessarily what she says but how she says it when she says anything. She gets what you ask for with very little said and it's not like she can't speak English - which she does perfectly. Perhaps it's just her personality, but even so she's in the public arena so she really needs to rise above her own preferences, to work at the level that's expected by customers from personell in the service industry.

I do keep going because the food is okay, there is a covered outside dining option, and the restaurant is less than a mile from me. That last fact makes it super convenient and is probably what keeps me going back more than anything. If there was another option in town that had good food and good customer service, making me feel like they actually wanted me there for more than just a tip, I would probably go elsewhere. The location in Central between two large touristic areas, Pawleys Island and Myrtle Beach. There’s usually a long wait whenever you want to come eat in the evenings however, their margaritas are strong and their food is extremely tasty with great salsa and good cheese dip. Make sure that you double check your order when you speak to the waiters. Due to unknown circumstances when we would make simple orders, it seems like they did not come out correctly. However, the food was still extremely tasty. Make sure you specify things such as like if you want a steak and chicken burrito in the singular fashion, then make sure they understand it is in one burrito and not two separate burritos.
