Altar'd State Saddle Creek — Local services in Germantown

I normally don’t play the race card but I’m doing it today. I went into this store for the first time ever. Four to five employees passed me by, never even looked up to speak or ask if I needed help with anything… it was like I didn’t even exist. To add, I was the ONLY customer in the store so it wasn’t like they were really busy. I browsed for about 10 mins, still nothing. I decided to leave after the coldness because obviously, my business wasn’t wanted at this store. As I’m getting ready to leave the store, 2 Caucasian young women walked in, they were instantly greeted with a smile, asked if they needed help and EVEN told them about the current promotions. At the same time, as I’m walking through the store to get to the EXIT, the young lady at the register THEN proceeds to ask, “Can I help you with something?” I replied, “No thanks” because at that time, I had felt a certain type of way so I decided to leave. As I’m leaving, the same young lady (at the register)stared at me, as if I was the plague as I exited. I will ABSOLUTELY never come back to this store. A colleague encouraged me to shop at this store because I was looking for attire to wear to a conference. I own and run a business, I will NEVER tolerate my employees and nor will I ever treat a customer or potential customer this way. This behavior will never be tolerated in my establishment. I saw several things I liked and wanted to try on but I felt uncomfortable. That was very unprofessional. I love Altar’d State!! The selections, the sales, the excellent guest service, and the beautiful decor every time you go in the boutique.

The only reason I gave four stars is because of the quality of the jewelry. I only bought my 18k gold monogram beaded bracelet three months ago. I store it properly away from any other pieces and I don’t wear it to bed or in the shower. Two months in to me wearing it, the gold began fading and just last week the bracelet turned my whole wrist green. It was disappointing for the price I paid and because I talked at length with a store representative about the quality of the jewelry.

I love this store, but this location and staff ruined the experience for me. I was minding my own business. I was shopping for hair accessories and jewelry. When an employee decided to approach me and tell me about their new line a beautiful soul for plus size women. I felt like I was being told to go to that side of the store when I can wear items in the regular size and that’s not even what I was looking for. I felt body shamed. Not to mention the name of “beautiful souls” is basically implying that these people have a beautiful soul but nothing else and that’s not true. This place may have tried to do something positive about adding a plus size line but they have gone about it the wrong...
