The first half of our visit was quite disappointing - 2/5 stars. My daughter and I did not receive the same excellent customer service everyone else is raving about here (although I did read the negative review of the woman who was ignored as well). We were ignored during the first half of our visit. We started looking at the rocks, and while we were still there, all the other customers left already. We then moved on to the coins for a short while then looked at the megalodon teeth. The first gentleman who paid attention to us was the very kind one behind the teeth area. We then moved back to the coins, and I was examining the display quite intently while this one guy was only a couple feet away from me, and at one point, he was directly in front of me. He did not care that we were there. A couple then entered the store, and he gave the man such great customer service. I thought, "oh, they are probably old customers". However, I heard the man confirm that it was his first time in the store. Anyway, I had to walk up to the same man who ignored us to ask for coins from the Philippines, and he graciously gave me the box of foreign coins. He still kept entertaining the other guy who walked in, who eventually left without purchasing anything. After that couple left, the customer service from the guy who ignored us improved tenfold. I am not sure what to think of this experience, but all I can say is, I did not feel welcome there at first.
So, why did I give this store a 4/5 overall rating? Well, their prices were very fair, the store was well-kept (extremely clean and did not have a strange smell), the place felt safe, the employees (or owners?) despite ignoring us did not pressure us or anyone else in the store to make a purchase, and their selection was impressive for a small store. I found several coins that I have wanted to add in my collection for a while, and they were priced well. I have sought out two of the coins I purchased today from other sellers who thought they could deceive me into buying at a price 5x more than what I was charged at this store.
Moreover, my daughter absolutely loved this store. She is very into rocks/gems and prehistoric animals. When she asked questions, even the guy who ignored us at first gave great answers. Therefore, despite how annoyed I felt at the beginning, I felt better about the store toward the end of our visit. We will certainly be back, but next time, I hope the people at the store will be better at taking care of ALL customers, not just...
Read moreHello everyone, Today's review will be on Gold mine coins and relics in Gig Harbor. 'DISCLAIMER' When you sell gold please do your own research... My review today is based on my own personal experience with this store from July 2025. I came in to sell a gold necklace with a charm it was 14 karat gold and weighed 35 Grams exactly. Some of the reviews on this store say that they give you good prices so I wanted to see if they're actually correct. "To be fair," the Price of gold constantly changes so in July the time we went Gold prices per Oz were around $3,300 +/- an ounce. The young gentleman looked at the necklace, weighed examined it and then offered me $1400. At the time, I was not happy with that price so the gentleman took a few moments and then immediately offered me $1700 saying that was the most they could pay for it. I was not at all happy with the $300 price change within the two minutes. Now I understand as a business everyone wants to make money. But when customers are coming in and you want to have a reoccurring customer you want to offer the best price that you honestly feel for whatever product. Now that they gave me such a flip flop answer on their price, I will never go there to sell jewelry. Sadly, that's just the way it is. As a business I know they want to make money but as a customer I also want to feel like I am selling my product for a good price. I don't want to feel like I'm being taken advantage of. This is my honest review of this store. the inside of the store was pleasant it was clean and there's no problems with any of that. It was just the problem on how they undervalued my gold. To answer any of the other questions, Yes I did sell it somewhere else for $1900. I hope this review helps everyone again do your own review and your own checks when selling your...
Read moreI recently walked into a store I’d never visited before: GoldMine Coins & Relics, in Gig Harbor, Washington. And it felt like I’d wandered into a Victorian shop from a Harry Potter movie. Everywhere I looked were displays not only of antique and modern coins and banknotes but also of fossilized fish, hideously large shark teeth, and a seven-foot-long, prehistoric mastodon tusk—and I was spellbound by everything I saw.
I had come there to sell a good many obsolete banknotes, most of them singles but some in uncut sheets. David Anderson, the proprietor—and, in his own words, “hobbyist-paleontologist”—asked if he could have a couple hours to accurately grade what I’d brought in. I was thoroughly pleased with the offer he presented two hours later, and a sale was made on the spot.
I recommend David without qualification. I believe his honesty and integrity are absolute. If I lived in another state, I wouldn’t hesitate to send him coins, banknotes, or jewelry for evaluation, and I’d be confident that what he offered was based on current-market prices.
Everyone who works in David’s store is extremely helpful. They obviously enjoy answering a customer’s many questions, which they do patiently, and in comprehensive detail. These are the folks you’d expect to encounter in a Harry Potter movie: charming, a tad bit quaint, and thoroughly delightful. And I’ll certainly be back!
My granddaughter collects fossils and crystals, and I know that the spectacular piece we bought for her Christmas gift will be proudly displayed in her...
