Desi Bazaar — Local services in Glendale Heights

If I could give them negative stars - I would. We have been getting samosas and pakoras from Desi Bazaar in Glendale Heights for a while. Sometimes the pakoras are not as fresh. After giving them business for so long we tried the haleem. The haleem was ridiculously and extremely spicy - burning our tongues and making our chest filled up with heartburn with just one bite. It was as if someone made a huge mistake and dropped the whole container of chili powder in the haleem. That haleem should not have been sold. It was a health hazard! I called the establishment and was spoke to rudely by a worker there who kept lying to me with different excuses and telling me that there was no owner to speak to. When he figured I wouldn't budge miraculously the owner was available to speak to. She said hello, and I began to tell her about the issue with the haleem. She did not respond at all and left me on the phone. I hung up and called back twice - conveniently the line was busy. Clearly this place is a classic ignorant business that has no sense of customer service. They did not want to keep my business by addressing my concern and refunding. I will never go back and never recommend buying anything from...

This place is a good place to buy dry Indian food. But when it comes to fresh, you better ask when their produce arrive so you can come over at that time to buy or just don't come. These owners need to be attentive and responsible for what they are selling. If you call and ask for curry leaves or mint (popular herbs bought often btw), the person on the other line will say we have it. You arrive with relief and expect to find two bags of mint spoiled with black oozing chlorophyll and the only thing they have fresh is the curry leaf. It enrages you that you would have to buy this spoiled herb that would still cost the price of a fresh one. You know that motto, "if it ain't spoiled, then keep using it." Well here that motto is often utilized and it hurts as customer to see that the owners aren't keeping the best interests for the customers well being, it's just their day to day profit. And don't even get me started on their open air snack area, it's just health violation...

Convenient location and albeit their prices are a tiny bit more than larger chains (totally expected), that’s not the reason for one star.

The reason for one star is discrepancy between price on tags and what rings on the register. They charge higher on the register.

So that the owner doesn’t think I’m making this up. Currently the Parle hide and seek strawberry is labeled $0.99 and the jaggery based brittle (gur chiki from Gem brand) is labeled $1.99. They ring up $1.19 and $2.29 respectively. The cashier won’t honor the tag price...
